James W. Maher

Bergen - James W. Maher, 93, of Bergen, passed away Saturday, (December 23, 2017) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Mr. Maher was born January 8, 1924 in Churchville, a son of the late Clarence and Eileen (Lawler) Maher.

He was a 93 year member of St. Brigid Church in Bergen.  James was a graduate of the Science Hill one room schoolhouse in Riga.  He later attended Bergen Highschool. He was a lifelong farmer and avid hunter in Riga. 

James is survived by his wife, Ann (Fodge) Maher.  The two were married in Bergen on May 7, 1949 and spent 68 wonderful years together.  Also surviving are his children, Regina “Gina” (Ron) Smith, Terry (Sue) Maher, Mike (Torrey) Maher, Dennis and Dan Maher; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary O’Rourke. 

He is preceded in death by a son, Tim Maher; and siblings, Theresa Keenan and Richard Maher. 

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake St., Bergen.  James’ Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (December 30, 2017) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen.  Burial in St. Brigid’s Cemetery will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Brigid’s Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen, NY 14416.
