Jeanne L. Zehler, 96 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve (December 24, 2017) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born June 1, 1921 in Albion, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas Moffatt and Louise Coghlan.

Mrs. Zehler was a telephone operator for the former NY Telephone Co. and was a member of the greatest generation, joining the war effort as a “Rosie The Riveter” at the Curtis Wright Aircraft Plant in Buffalo. She played percussion for several years along with her husband in the Bill Bird Orchestra. She was a fine artist and painted several paintings and sketches. Mrs. Zehler was also a member of Resurrection Parish for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will deeply missed by those who loved her.

She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Zehler, who died August 27, 1999 and sister of the late Mary E. Graf, John W. Moffatt and aunt of the late John Moffatt (Pam).

Survivors include her sons, Joseph (Jean) Zehler of Arkansas and Edward (Judy) Zehler of Batavia. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Charles Donahue of Denver, Debbie(Glen) Beal of Kansas City and Betty Moffatt.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and memories on Friday (December 29th) from 9:30am-11:30am at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA, where prayers will be recited at 11:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 12:00pm at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph Site).
