Roger D. Hopkins

Bergen - Roger D. Hopkins, 70, of Bergen, a driving instructor with Batavia Driving Academy prior to his retirement, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home in Bergen.

Mr. Hopkins was born February 8, 1948 in Batavia, a son of the late Reginald and Ida (Stringham) Hopkins.

He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War.   He was a former firefighter, serving with the Byron Fire Department for 17 years and later, the Bergen Fire Department.  He enjoyed tournament bowling, fishing and NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his wife, Donna J.  (Elliott) Hopkins, whom he married on October 5, 1985; a son, Gary (Nikki) Hopkins of Bergen; his mother-in-law, Nancy Szymanski of Holley; 3 grandchildren, Connor, Logan and Charlotte; 3 siblings, Irv (Marty) Hopkins of GA, Donna Richardson and Leon Hopkins, both of LeRoy; a sister-in-law, Debbie (John) Sibbald of Chili; a brother-in-law, Walter (Allison) Elliott, Jr. of OR; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was the brother of the late David Hopkins.  

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc., 51 S. Lake St. in Bergen, where services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018.  Burial will be in Mt.
