Robert L. Giacumo

By LaVern Falcone

LeRoy ~ On Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, Robert entered into eternal rest with his family present, at age 71, after a long struggle with cancer.  He was predeceased by his step father, George Giacumo and his mother, Fleur Jaquay Giacumo.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane; daughters, Lisa (Jeroen) Giacumo Breman of Boise, ID and Amy (Jeffrey) Giacumo White of Glen Cove, Long Island; grandson, Alexander Breman; siblings, Michael, Georgia and Margaret Giacumo of Schenectady, Betty Fenlon of Glenville, Carolyn Elgar of CA, Sally Elgar of CO and Rodger Elgar of FL, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob retired as a Colonel from the New York Army National Guard after serving 37 years.  He was a graduate of the U S Army War College in Carlisle, PA with a Master's in Strategic Studies.

Bob was a lifelong learner, taking college courses as recently as this past Summer.  In later years, he visited numerous countries in Europe and national parks in the U.S.  He enjoyed skiing, running, reading, the shooting sports and being with his family and loved ones.  He was fluent in German, Spanish, French and Italian.

Throughout his struggle with cancer, he made the decision that he would fully live his life and not dwell on things over which he had no control.  The words of the 23rd Psalm had a deep influence on him.  It was his faith, his strongly held belief in the Grace of God and the loving support from his family and friends, that helped him to live his life to the fullest extent possible.

Family and friends may call on Friday, Dec. 14 from 4 ~ 8 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1 E. Main St., LeRoy, where his Inurnment Service will immediately follow in St. Marks's columbarium. A graveside service in Machpelah Cemetery with military honors will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads House, P. O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021 or The US Army Emergency Relief Fund, 2530 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA  22202.
