Ruth DelPlato, 61, died peacefully on December 11, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center. Ruth was born in Batavia on June 8, 1957, a daughter of the late Lewis T. and Helen (Tulowiecki) DelPlato.

She had been a resident for twenty-three years at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Batavia. A communicant of Ascension Parish, Ruth attended the Batavia public schools and then participated in the Arc of Genesee Orleans Sheltered Work Center beginning in the mid-1980s. There she took part in Special Olympics and the agency’s Bowl-a-Thon. At Arc Ruth was known as an advocate for herself and her peers. Ruth eventually transitioned to the Day Habilitation Center in Elba. Even though she moved into the Genesee County Nursing home over two decades later, she retained her connection to the Arc. Individuals and staff from the Arc Day Hab Center visited their friend Ruth often at the nursing home over the last several years. They brought cards, board games, and arts and crafts projects. They especially enjoyed sharing stories and hearing Ruth's laughter.

She is survived by five sisters: Carole LaValley of Batavia, Judy (Nick) Young of Raleigh NC, Linda Bishop of Raleigh NC, Paulette (Timothy) Pickering of Greensboro NC, Joan DelPlato (Bryan Goodwin) of South Hadley MA; two brothers: L. Thomas (Lisa Gugino) Del Plato of Rochester NY and Will (Elizabeth “Liz” Richardson) Del Plato of Gresham, OR, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
