Robert E. Radley "Bob"

Robert E. Radley “Bob”, 88 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday (October 6, 2019) at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

He was born January 29, 1931 in Batavia, a son of the late Charles Radley and Carrie Radley Whitney.

Bob graduated and was “The Mayor” of Batavia High School Class of 1949. He participated on the undefeated BHS basketball, football and baseball teams in 1947, which would eventually see him inducted into the Batavia Blue Devil Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He signed a professional baseball contract after high school, starting with the Batavia Clippers in 1950 and played for 8 years in multiple cities ending at the AAA level in Columbus, OH for the Cleveland Indians. After baseball Bob had a long career as a carpenter, builder and construction manager through the Rochester Carpenters Union.

Faith and religion was a large part of his life, having been a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society of Ascension Parish, the recipient of the Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker through the Diocese of Buffalo and being instrumental in the construction of the Notre Dame High School Grotto in 1997.

Bob was also a member of the Polish Falcons where he was the recipient of the Polish Falcons Club top service award the Gold Legion of Honor Medal. He provided countless hours of volunteer service for Sacred Heart Church, the VA Hospital and various community-wide projects.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, bowling and playing golf for many years, and was a big fan of his favorite team, the NY Yankees.

Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Jeanette (Kosciolek) Radley of Batavia. Children, Kathleen (James) Flynn of Evergreen, CO, Robert (Marion) Radley of Batavia, Susan (Thomas) Fiesthumel of Forest, VA and Daniel (Cheryl) Radley of Roswell, GA. Grandchildren, Robert Radley, Kelly Radley, Becky (Aaron) Patterson, Joseph (Andrea) Prinzi, Lindsay (Tristan) Michaleski, Lauren Fiesthumel (Ivan Dirkx), Alyse Fiesthumel (David Quarshie), Brooke Fiesthumel, Alexandra Radley and Ian Radley. Great –grandchildren, Lucas, Ella and Nolan Radley and Nolan Michaleski. Siblings, Rose Warner of Avon, NY, Mae Dusen of Batavia, Florence Taft of Batavia and Frances Lawrence of Batavia.

He was the brother of the late Angela Weber and Leonard “Bud” Radley.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Tuesday (October 15th) from 4-8pm at the J. LEONARD McANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday (October 16th), 10:00am at Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner St, Batavia. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
