Lyle W. Embt

By T.J. Woodward

Lyle W. Embt, 87, of Bethany, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 in LeRoy, NY.  He was born on August 14, 1932 in Bethany, NY to the late William H. Embt Jr. and the late Edith M. (Norton) Embt.  Lyle was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carol (Smith) in October of 2017.

As a young man, Lyle enjoyed his college years at Alfred Ag & Tech, even occasionally hitchhiking to NYC on weekends.  After graduation he returned home to nurture his dairy farm in conjunction with his Dad's poultry farm.  He and Carol raised their family on the farm. In addition to the toil and rigor of farm life, he worked 20 years as a bus driver for the Alexander School District.  Lyle’s country lifestyle fostered in him an independent spirit such that he was a self taught carpenter and mason. On the rare occasion he was not working Lyle enjoyed reading, mowing his lawn and communicating worldwide with his HAM radio equipment.  He was a perennial student of history, such that he devoured written accounts and thoroughly enjoyed an occasional trip to nearby states.  Visiting Gettysburg and Washington D.C. created special memories where he would soak up every word of every plaque, tour the sights, visit the monuments and relive the history in his mind.

Lyle is survived by his children, Paul (Lori) Embt of Pavilion, Tim Embt of Bethany, Bob (Gail) Embt of Virginia, Becky (Mark) DiNardo of Maryland, Don (Susan) Embt of Virginia, Susan (Brian) Meyers of Bethany, Sarah (Phil) Miess of Henrietta, and Tom (Jennifer) Embt of Colden; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

There will be no prior visitation and no services at the request of Lyle.
