Richard L. Halstead

  Richard L. Halstead, age 66 of Perry, New York passed away on Saturday April 11, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Warsaw, New York on October 21, 1953, a son to the late Lawrence W. and Marcella B. (Caryl) Halstead. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson Lucas Dillon who passed away in 2015, in-laws: Robert and Elcy Altoft, sister-in-law: Kyle Wixson Altoft, niece: Rachel Lafferty and nephew: Brad Altoft.

Rick was a 1971 graduate of Perry High School. He worked for Allen Bailey Tag and Label Company in Caledonia for several years moving onto JN White Designs in Perry where he held several positions at the company prior to his retirement in 2011 including printer, machine maintenance and plant operations production manager. Rick was a devoted member to the Perry Fire Department joining in 1986. He was past Chief, training officer, Jr. Fire Dept. advisor, fire prevention leader with the Perry Elementary School, and the Perry Fire Department Benevolent Association, Western New York Volunteer’s Fireman’s Association, was a former assistant scout leader for Boy Scouts, and was a hunter and bow safety instructor for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Altoft) Halstead whom he married on April 28, 1973, daughter: Valerie (Jeffrey Dillon) Halstead of Perry, 2 sons: Thomas Halstead of Perry and Adam (Vanessa) Halstead of Avon, 3 sisters: Lucinda (David) Rhodes of Az., Carol (Spencer) Willey of Perry, Donna (Jeff) Corey of Bergen, 3 brothers: Dennis (Lisa) Halstead of Warsaw, Ronald (Nancy) Halstead of Penfield, Robert (Ray Beekman) Halstead of Lockport, brother and sister-in-laws: Judy (Sigfried) Thewke of LaGrange, James Altoft of Galway, NY and Fl,, Gloria Altoft of Warsaw, William (Jill) Altoft of Oh., 8 grandchildren: Kayla, Adelyn, Joseph, Ethan and Edward Halstead, Timothy, Addison and Logan Dillon, along with many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held in LaGrange Cemetery on Wednesday April 15, 2020. A procession at 10:30am will precede Services at the cemetery from the Funeral Home using N. Main, Covington and N. Center streets where extended family, friends and community members can publicly pay their respects. A public Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
