James A. Hoy Sr.

James A. Hoy Sr. 86 of Bennington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born July 10, 1934 in Cheektowaga, to the late Harry (Edna Warsitz) Hoy Sr. He is preceded in death by a brother Harry Hoy Jr. and sister Marcia Linsey.

Mr. Hoy is a United States Army Veteran and served in Germany from 1954 to 1956. He worked at Trico Products in Buffalo for 20 years and the Town of Bennington Highway Department for 10 years.

James was a life member of the Bennington Volunteer Fire Company, president of the fire company for 12 years through the 1980’s. He was instrumental in getting ambulance service established through the Fire Company.

His hobbies included restoring old cars, cutting wood at the cabin and having a cold beer with friends. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Hoy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Sharon (Haller) Hoy; children Julie (John) Perry, James (Cody) Hoy Jr., Jay (Patricia) Hoy; grandchildren John Henry (Kirsten) Perry; Casey Hoy; Hudson Hoy; Fenton Hoy; sisters Judy Dubois, Annette Miller and Karen Balduf; along with many nieces and nephews.  

There will be no prior calling hours, a Celebration of Life will be determined for a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions. He will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Bennington.
