Mr. Donald D. Hilbert

Batavia - Donald D. Hilbert, age 90, of Batavia passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Mr. Hilbert was born April 28, 1930 in Batavia, a son of the late Gerald L. Hilbert and Doris E. Dillon Hilbert.

A 1948 graduate from Batavia High School and graduate of the Erie County Technical Institute, Don was a lifetime member of Godfrey's Pond where he volunteered countless hours for the fish and fowl program. Don loved traveling to the Adirondack Mountains, fishing, boating and was proud of his extensive collection of fishing lures. Don enjoyed watching baseball games and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He was a member in good standing for over 39 years with The American Legion Post No. 0332 in Batavia. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1950-1954.

Donald is the husband of Elizabeth A. Wahl Hilbert. They were married on August 5, 1961. He is also survived by his children; Steven (Brenda) Hilbert of Mauldin, South Carolina; Christopher (Wendy) Hilbert of Bergen, and Kimberly (Gardner) Holzhauser of Shacklesford, Virginia; seven grandchildren survive; Hennesey Kryston, Alissa Hilbert, Alex (Sarah)Hilbert, Alexandria Holzhauser, Danielle Holzhauser, Kassandra Holzhauser and Matthew Hilbert; his great-granddaughter; Georgia Goodrich; his brother; Reginald Hilbert of  Englewood, Florida along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Don is predeceased by his son, D. Michael Hilbert who passed away on August 30, 2020 and his brother, Sidney Hilbert who passed away in 1929.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial, with military honors will be held in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
