Samuel R. Oddo

Samuel R. Oddo, 90 of Batavia, passed away on December 27, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Batavia, on October 19, 1930 to the late Salvatore (Antoniette Irrera) Oddo. He is preceded in death by siblings William, Nicholas and Anthony Oddo, Sara Passamonte, Angeline Oliver and Anna DiStefano.

After High School, Sam worked at Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Warner-Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia and then shipped overseas via the U.S.N.S.C.G Morton to the Philippines for his remaining two years. Sam returned home and worked at Doehler’s for 13 years until he took a job at Hub Manufacturing until 1971. The same year Sam then gambled and started his own business called Elchar Tool and Die, a mold making shop in Batavia. Four years later he started a second business in injection molding plastics called Genesee Precision Plastics. There, they would make parts for Kodak cameras and Smith Corona typewriters and word processors.

Sam’s spare time included being a devout New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan, making wine and gardening. He enjoyed spending time boating and fishing at his condo on Ostego Lake. He was a member of St. Nicholas Club, American Legion and the VFW.

Sam is survived by the love of his life and wife of 63 years Theresa (Martino) Oddo of Batavia; children, Sam (Sharon) Oddo of Batavia; Nancy (Scott) Henry of Darien; Lori (Randy) Dibble of Corfu; Robert (Sandra) Oddo of Churchville; Julie (Kelly) Boyle of Batavia; siblings, Joseph (Frances) Oddo of Batavia; Richard (Donna) Oddo of Batavia; Katherine Turchiarelli of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.
