Kathryn Gilbert

Alabama - Kathryn Gilbert, 91 of Alabama passed away on Saturday, (May 1, 2021) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia where she had been residing.

Mrs. Gilbert was born August 24, 1929 in Shelby, a daughter of the late Harold and Minnie (Roggow) Meiser.

A devout christian, she was a member of the Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church where she held several leadership positions throughout the years.  Kathryn is a past member of the Alabama Cemetery Committee. She enjoyed going for walks, traveling, flowers, and watching old movies and PBS on television. Mrs. Gilbert was a patriotic woman who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathryn is the wife of  the late Rowland Gilbert who passed away in 1980.

Surviving are her children, Keith (Judy) Gilbert of Alabama, and Melinda (Gordon McConnell) Gilbert of Basom; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gilbert of Oakfield; grandchildren, Carrie (Frankie, Jr.) Desjardins of Oakfield, Kristina Gilbert of Oakfield, Chad (Sonya Charache) Gilbert of Basom, Candy (Justin) Hill of Oakfield, and Jason Gilbert of Middleport; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Dallas Gilbert, Rylee Hill, and Jamie Gilbert. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Gilbert; brothers, Lester and Wendell Meiser; sisters, Viola Bentley, Edna Chugg, and Mildred Ross.

Services will be held privately for the family. Kathryn will be laid to rest beside her husband in Alabama Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church, 1392 Church Street, Alabama, New York 14013 or Volunteers for Animals, PO Box 162, Batavia, New York14021.
