Helen (nee Colantonio) Monachino

Batavia - Helen (nee Colantonio) Monachino, of Batavia, died peacefully at her home on December 28, 2021. This is the same home where she was born on March 20, 1923. Together with her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, the late Paul N. Monachino, they raised their four children, Rosemarie Monachino, Cheryl Ann (Gary) Schmelzer, Mary Jean (Rick) DiMartino, and Paul (Jeanine) Monachino. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Christine Lopardi, Jill (Eric) Szpylman, Gary (Jessica) Schmelzer, Megan  (Derek Scott) DiMartino, Richard DiMartino, Eric DiMartino, Shellie (Greg Adams) DiMartino, Kylie Monachino, Patrick (Erika) Monachino, and Ethan (Nichole Wilson) Monachino; seven great-grandchildren, Alexander Hammann, Isabella Lopardi, Michael Lopardi, IV, Matthew Szpylman, Avery Szpylman, Lucas Schmelzer, and Lexi Scott; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joan Monachino; her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Colantonio; her two brothers, Nicholas Colantonio and Michael Colantonio; and a sister, Mary Peiliker.

There will be no prior calling hours, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Family and friends are invited to Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, (January 3, 2022) at Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner Street in Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Ascension R.C. Parish or to Crossroads House, PO Box 403, Batavia, New York 14021.
