John H. Magnus

  John H. Magnus, 93, of the town of Alabama, NY, passed away on Monday January 17, 2022 at the Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born on April 5, 1928 in Baldwin, NY to the late Edward and Helen (Heyward) Magnus. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his first wife; Margot (Kopf) Magnus, his second wife; Deanna (Walls) Guihan and third wife; Myrna (Daniels) Magnus; sister Helen Richthammer.

Mr. Magnus was a proud United States Army Veteran and member of American Legion Post 626 in Basom, NY. He enjoyed the 29 years he spent working for the Telephone Company and retired as a foreman in Babylon, NY. John also spent time working on furnaces part time in Bay Shore, NY and also part time at SEARS Automotive Department in Bayshore, NY. He was known to micromanage at M&M Seafoods out on the dredge. M&M was Magnus & Magnus John's son kirks boat business in West Sayville NY. Where he would spend every day there helping or as his son kirk would say...micro managing the dock yard.  He was an avid duck hunter, master boat builder, push pole maker and meticulous decoy creator. John won awards for his duck boats, decoys and was the center point of many articles, and was mentioned in a few books. He had a bay house on an island in Freeport that was used in the winters for duck hunting with the guys and the summers for family and friends gatherings. John also built a house in East Hampton for his parents, where family and friends would gather for summers for boating, fishing and swimming for many years. 

He is survived by his children Barbara (Ricky) Erdman, Deanna (Peter) Keenan, Kirk (Rachel) Magnus, John (Dianna) Magnus; stepsons Brett (Denise) Easterbrook and Tim (Shelly) Easterbrook, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours or funeral services.
