By Lisa Ace

Dorothy Taylor, a longtime resident of Batavia, N.Y., passed away peacefully at age 101 on February 6, 2022 in Arvada, CO., where she resided for the past eight years.

Born October 15, 1920 in Montreal, Canada, Dorothy moved from Montreal to Batavia in 1963 and began a new chapter in her lifelong commitment to her family, her faith and numerous volunteer initiatives to enhance the lives of others locally and globally.

Dorothy served in local and regional roles with the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, served on the Genesee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board and volunteered at that hospital into her 90s. In partnership with Genesee County Office for the Aging, she initiated and expanded a monthly social and educational program for countywide seniors. She loved singing in the choir, playing piano, knitting and crocheting, and square dancing.

She is survived by daughter, Dianne Taylor-(Charles) Chandler and son, Brian (Norine) Taylor, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Lester Taylor, daughter Beverley Marino, and brother Lloyd Stafford.

A Celebration of Life was held on February 9, attended by family members, residents and staff of her assisted living residence, and friends and clergy from her church in Arvada.

Dorothy’s family would like to especially thank the caring and devoted staff and friends at Nightingale Suites and Christ Community Covenant Church. Her life after relocating to Colorado was made easier and enhanced by their unwavering support and presence.

Dorothy will be interned later this year in her family’s plot in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, alongside her parents, husband and brother.

Over the years Dorothy generously donated to a wide range of charities and organizations. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor should do so to one of their choosing.
