Mrs. Gloria E. Allein

Batavia- Gloria E. Allein, 99, of Batavia passed away on Friday, February 18th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home in Clarence.

Mrs. Allein was born January 8th, 1923, in Buffalo, NY. She is the daughter of the late Harold W. Athoe and Frieda H. Athoe.

Gloria was a longtime and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, NY. She was a member of the church choir, bell choir, Ladies Auxiliary and taught both Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She volunteered her time for many years at Genesee Memorial Hospital. She married Fred J. Allein on December 17th, 1944, upon his return home from World War II. While he was still active with the Air Force they lived in Germany and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Gloria enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. You only had to meet Gloria once and you would fall in love with her infectious smile and loving heart.

Surviving are her children, Gloria (Robert) Chapman of Stafford, James (Cheryl) Allein of Attica, her son-in-law, David R. Whitcombe of Batavia; grandchildren, Brent (Judy) Chapman, Rebecca (Matthew) Roggow, Robert (Molly) Chapman, Jeffery (Shannon) Whitcombe, Ryan (fiancé Meghan Dwyer) Whitcombe, Becky Whitcombe, Abby Allein, Alyssa Allein, and Braden Allein; eleven great-grandchildren with her twelfth due in June; her sister, Wilma Meyer of Batavia; her brother, Harold W. Athoe II. of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Fred J. Allein, who passed away on October 15th, 2010; her daughter, Pamela Whitcombe who passed away on August 13th, 2021; her grandson, Richard Whitcombe who passed away on July 24th, 2006; and her sister, Jeanette Briggs who passed away on March 17th, 1969.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 23rd, from 10 am to 11 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Avenue, Batavia, NY. Her funeral services will immediately follow visitation and begin at 11 am. Burial will be at Grand View Cemetery in Batavia.
