Rita Mengs

Elba - We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Rita Mengs on Tuesday, September 20th at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness.

Rita was born on January 9th, 1936, daughter of Clayton and Marie Sheffer of Stafford, and resided in Elba for 65 years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Rita was a long time member of the Elba Auxiliary. She was happiest in her home, which she took great pride in. Rita loved baking pies while listening to country music, as well as traveling with her husband, including cherished trips to Branson, MO. She never missed a chance to spend time with her loved ones.

Survived by her husband, Leslie Mengs of 69 blissful years. Children, Julie (Keith) Richenberg of North Carolina and Jeffrey Mengs of New York. Grandchildren, Bradley (Lena) Richenberg of Virginia, Kaitlin (Zachary) Spencer of North Carolina and Matthew Richenberg of Hawaii. Beloved great grandson, Harrison Spencer.

As per Rita's request, no calling hours or memorial service will be held, Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Maplelawn Cemetery in Elba.
