Mrs. Jennie Starowitz

Bergen- Mrs. Jennie “Busia” Starowitz, of Bergen, died on September 28, 2022. 

Mrs. Starowitz was born on January 26, 1926 in Alexander, NY, daughter of Kazmir and Veronica (Piasecki) Dempski. 

Her husband, Stephen C. Starowitz, a retired farm operator, died October 20, 1998.

She was a member of St. Brigid Church of Bergen.  Jennie was a long-time member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension, a 4-H Leader, and a Genesee County Fair judge. She enjoyed teaching young 4-H’ers sewing, cooking, tatting, crafts, crocheting and knitting.  In 2004 Jennie was “recognized by the Board of Directors of Genesee County as 2004 Friend of Extension for her many years of dedicated service to the 4-H program of Genesee County”.  Mrs. Starowitz also made many quilts for the Pediatric Unit of Strong Memorial Hospital.  She was a demonstrator/supervisor of Dutchmaid Fashions for 24 years, worked for the Prudential Insurance Company of Batavia for 4 years and was manager of Bergen Meadows Apartments for 8 years.  Jennie was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services, Blood and Flu Clinic Services and also the Tour/Information Booth in Batavia.  She was a Charter and Lifetime Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Byron Fire Department and served on the advisory council of the Office for the Aging.  Jennie was responsible for helping start a club for the Seniors of St. Brigid Church known as the “Recycled Teens”. 

Survivors include four sons, Stephen (Diane) Starowitz of Byron, David (Gayla) Starowitz of Byron, Thomas (Terri) Starowitz of Stafford and Michael (Joann) Starowitz of Bergen; a daughter, Susan-Marie Williams of Houston, Texas.  She also has 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Starowitz, Cathy (Michael) Parsons, James (Sherry) Starowitz, Shawna (Josh) Dorman, Jenna (Colby) Ayres, Emily (Brian) Hirsch, Cori (Patrick) Zinter, Christopher (Krystal) Starowitz, Stephanie (Duane) Ruppert, Kaitlyn (Paul) Chmielowiec and Matthew (Amy) Starowitz.  Jennie has been blessed with 27 great grandchildren.  Also surviving is her sister, Stephanie Mazurek of Alabama; sister-in-law, Antoinette Dempski of Alexander and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late George H. Starowitz and sister of the late Stanley, Joseph, Edward and Andrew Dempski.

Friends may call on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home at 51 South Main Street in Bergen, NY.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, October 3, 2022 at St. Brigid Church, 18 Gibson Street in Bergen, NY. Burial will be at St. Brigid Cemetery, Bergen.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bergen Ambulance and Rescue Squad, P.O.
