Gerald Maley

 Gerald Maley, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2022.

Gerry was born on May 23, 1930 in Batavia, the son of the late John and Helena Lippold Maley. Following his 1948 high school graduation, he played professional baseball for teams in Batavia and Olean, New York. He was inducted into the Batavia High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. Following Gerry’s baseball career, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. When he returned to civilian life he worked as a lineman and switchman for Niagara Mohawk for 37 years.

He was very community minded and an active member of the American Legion, Batavia Lion’s Club, Niagara Mohawk Pensioners Club, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and a long time usher at St. Mary’s Church. He also served as Vice President and Director of the Batavia Clippers and Muckdogs Baseball Clubs.

Gerry is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years; Dorothy; his parents John and Helena Maley; brother Edward Maley and sister Regina Perkowski.

Gerry is survived by his children; Barbara (Penn) Pixley, Douglas (Sharon) Maley, William Maley and Janice Maley; grandchildren Brian (Meghan) Pixley, Jennifer (Anthony) Ortiz, Juliana (Joseph) Chahine, Alexandria (Joshua) Muller, Victoria (Eric) Wing and Daniel Maley; great-grandchildren Caroline, Luke, Cole and Madelyn Pixley, Arthur Ortiz and Elias Chahine; sister Donna (Jim) West, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Friends are invited to call on Monday November 7, 2022 from 4:00-8:00PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Prayers will be recited at 9:00AM at the Funeral Home followed by a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday the November 8th  at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s) 18 Ellicott St. in Batavia. Gerry will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
