Susan M. Mondi, 77, of Batavia passed away on April 17, 2023. She was born on December 14, 1945 in Utica to the late Donald Hensel and Carol (Cary) Ulrich. In addition to her parents, Susan is predeceased by her son; Matthew Mondi; brother Paul Hensel.

Sue spent the majority of her life involved in the horse business.  Starting with her marriage to retired harness driver Peter Mondi, Jr., working as a telephone operator and then in the marketing department at Batavia Downs, and lastly, working in the race office part time.  She retired from the Clarion Hotel where she was the event coordinator to spend more time with her family.

She was known as Grams, Gram, Grandma, and Grandma Sue to her grandchildren, and they were the light of her life. She cherished family get togethers and vacations and attended every one of her grandchildren’s sporting/school events. She was the craft queen and spent every spare moment she had doing some type of craft project.  Sue loved driving “around the horn” which were country roads and appreciated a beautiful sunset. She was the most caring, selfless woman and always put others first.  She was an avid Bills fan and never missed a game. One of her favorite moments was dancing with Paul Anka at one of his concerts. Sue loved her trips back home to Utica to spend time with family and she would want us all to continue “making memories”.

Susan is survived by her children; Peter J. (Rebecca) Mondi III of E. Bethany, Carolyn (Thomas) Della Penna of Batavia, Shannon (Rick) Kabel of E. Bethany; step daughter Ryan (Ray Fisher) Swift of Lancaster; brothers Scott (Margaret) Hensel of Vero Beach, FL., Don (Debby) Hensel of Whitesboro, Robin (Renee) Hensel of Conesus; 8 grandchildren Matt, Andrea, Sydney, Samantha, Madalyn, Christopher, Kyle and Cooper, along with many nieces and nephews.
