Mary Young, 98, of Alexander, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Gateway Home in Attica, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 4, 1925 in Alden, New York, the daughter of the late Charles and Berenice (Burden) Rider.
Mary earned her Nursing Degree from Syracuse University during WWII. She and Dick Young raised their six children in the home where she grew up in the heart of Alexander. She was an avid reader whose quick wit was enjoyed by many. She found joy in quiet times on her porch and visits from her ever-growing family. If there is one thing Mary loved, it was her family.
Mary will be remembered by her six children, Ellie (George) Jinks of Pavilion, Beth (Bob) Parrish of LeRoy, Kathy (Mary) Young-Murray (Tom) of LeRoy, Robert Young and fiancé Char Patrick of Alexander, James (Holly) Young of Indio, CA, and Jodi (Mark) Gates of Lyndonville; siblings, John (Late Anne) Rider of Webster and Joan Rider of Canandaigua; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mary is predeceased by her siblings William (Late Eleanor) Rider, James Rider, Thomas (Late Georgianna) Rider, and Ann Moore (Late Paul).
Family and friends are invited for calling hours from 2-4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Attica on Saturday, October 7, 2023. A funeral service will immediately follow at the church.
