Richard John Hagen, 92 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday (December 18, 2023) at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia. He was born June 14th, 1931 in Batavia NY, son of Stanley and Ellen Saunders Hagen. He was one of three children, brother and twin Donald Hagen and sister Nancy Hagen.

He graduated from Batavia High in 1949. Of many occupations Richard went on to join the Army National Guard for which he served a total of 39 years retiring as a warrant officer in 1989. Richard also worked for Massey Harris and Graham Manufacturing.

Richard was always strong in his faith as a boy serving as an acolyte at St. James Episcopal church, attended and drove the church bus at Calvary Baptist Church and a member of Pembroke Community Church.

Richard or better known as Dick was married three times. Leah (Liane) Hagen Kabel, Hazel Hagen and Lola Hagen. Richard had 3 children with Leah, David John Hagen, Michael Edwin Hagen and Sharon Hagen. Grandchildren from David are Jason Hagen, Josh Hagen, Jared Hagen, Courtney Hagen and Troy Hagen with great-grandchildren totaling 6. Grandchildren from Michael are Lerah Hagen, Wyatt Hagen and Justin Hagen. Grandchildren from Sharon are Becki Jackson Lindow and Nathaniel Jackson with 6 great grandchildren and 3 on the way.

Richard's second marriage to Hazel bore 2 children, Randolph Mark Hagen and Richard John Hagen Jr.. Grandchildren from Randolph are Nicole Irene Hagen Dickey and Jacob Riley Hagen with great grandchildren totaling 2. Grandchildren from Richard Jr. are Derek Hagen, Jordan Hagen, Mariah Hagen and Erica Naylor Frith. Great grandchildren from Mariah and Erica total 5 with 1 great-great grandchild. Richard also had several Step children, Patricia Smith, Phyllis Seager, Albert Hottois, Ed Hensel, Pat Hensel Rogers and Debra Stringham who loved him and he loved dearly.

Services will be held at J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave. Batavia New York, Friday, January 12th at 12:00PM with the burial service Saturday January 13th, 11:00am at the Elmwood Cemetery 123 Harvester Ave, Batavia, New York.
