Virginia A. Curry, age 96, formerly of Stafford, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening (May 21, 2025) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.
She was born April 23, 1929 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Paul and Ann Elizabeth Dowling Lapp.

Virginia will be remembered as a very loving and caring person, who was devoted to her family and her faith. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish as well as a member of the lay order of the Carmelites. She pursued her desire to care for others after high school, becoming a nurse. After receiving her RN degree, Virginia joined the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lt. and served from 1952 – 1954. After her military service, she continued her nursing career at various places and eventually retired from the Genesee County Nursing Home. She continued to volunteer during her retirement years for Literacy Volunteers as well as providing religious instruction to school children and also hosted foreign exchange students.
She will be sadly missed by her eight children; Jeanne (Joseph) Penepent of Bergen, Kathleen (Joseph) Fannon of FL, Mary (Brian) Bisig of LeRoy, Barbara (Tom) Radley of Stafford, Eileen “Sue” (Jeff) Ormandy of Henrietta, Roberta “Bobbi” Curry (Ron Dickinson) of Perry, John (Anne) Curry of MA and William Curry of Stafford; 18 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Robert H. Curry; her sister, Mary Margaret (John) Scheuing and brother, Paul (Patricia) Lapp Jr.; sisters in-law, Velma (James) McPherson, Armada (Floyd) Stone and Margaret Curry.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 29 from 4 ~ 7 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy. Her Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. Interment with military honors will immediately follow.
