Patricia

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia Anne Swapceinski, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9th, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 25, 1941, in Rochester, Patricia was a cherished resident of Bergen, where she built a life filled with love, community, and family.

Patricia's journey in life was marked by her dedication to both her family and her career. She began her professional life as a computer programmer at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, a role she excelled in before choosing to focus on raising her family. Once her children were older, Patricia returned to the workforce, running the computer lab at Byron-Bergen High School. Her passion for learning and service to others led her back to college at the age of 50, where she pursued a new path as a chiropractor. She and her daughter, Amy, proudly established Bergen Family Chiropractic, which continues to serve the community today.

A woman of many talents and interests, Patricia was an aspiring musician, playing the ukulele and participating in the folk group at St. Brigid Church, where she was a member. Her love for music was just one of the many ways she connected with those around her. Patricia was an avid gardener and loved to watch her birdfeeders. She shared her love for the outdoors with her family through activities such as downhill and cross-country skiing, water skiing, and biking. As a testament to her adventurous spirit, Patricia, alongside her husband, completed a bike ride along the entire length of the Erie Canal. She traveled extensively, visiting every continent except the Arctic.

Patricia's family was the center of her world. She leaves behind her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, John P. Swapceinski; her loving children, John M. Swapceinski of Canandaigua, Robert G. (Bernadette Thompson) Swapceinski of Bergen, Amy P. (Eric) Mercovich of Bergen, and Jennifer A. Swapceinski of Rochester. She was the cherished grandmother to six grandchildren: Zachary, Adam, and Joshua Swapceinski, and Celia, Lily, and John Mercovich. Patricia is also survived by her brother, David (Stephanie) Burke of Bergen; sisters, Kathleen Bentley of Rochester and Peggy (late Jim) Ammann of Florida; brothers-in-law, Paul (Barbara) Doty, Richard Swacen; sister-in-law, Martha Swacen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucille Helmbold Burke, and her brother, Donald E. (Pat M.) Burke.

Friends may call from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, June 16th at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Avenue, Bergen, NY 14416. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Tuesday, June 17th at St. Brigid Church, 18 Gibson St., Bergen.  She will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, Bergen immediately following Mass.
