In Loving Memory of Justin Maynard Johnson
September 11, 1974 – May 29, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Justin Maynard Johnson, of Athens, Ohio. He passed away on May 29, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 50.
Dad was born on September 11, 1974, in Dillon, Beaverhead County, Montana, to the late Bertal Thomas Johnson II and Brenda Joyce Poincot. He grew up surrounded by the rugged beauty of Montana and the deep bonds of a large, loving family.
He graduated from Quincy High School in California and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. A jack of all trades, Dad had a deep love for creating art—whether through tattooing, drawing, or restoring a car in the driveway. He also found joy in hunting, gaming, and spending time with his kids. There was a quiet wisdom about him, a fire for life, and a fierce love for his family that defined everything he did.
Dad is survived by a legacy of love and strength, including: his children, Jade Johnson of Oakfield, NY, Jaylee Johnson of East Pembroke, NY, Jorja Johnson of Attica, NY, Mikaylah Johnson, Kayleeona Johnson, Mariah Johnson, and Kolton Johnson, all of Zanesville, OH: His siblings – Jared (Marjorie) Johnson of Fullerton, CA, Jon Johnson of Quincy, CA, Christopher Johnson of Louisiana, Jessica (Jacob) Fogal of Merritt Island, FL, and Cindy (Josh) Duval of Cabot, AR; his aunt, Rebecca Johnson of Susanville, CA; his second mother , Pamela Johnson of Quincy, CA.
Justin was the loving father of the late Jordan Montana Johnson, whom he missed every day. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bertal Thomas Johnson II and Brenda Joyce Poincot; his grandparents, Mary Lou & Bertal Thomas Johnson, and Pauline Geraldine “Geri” & Steven Joseph Bernard; and his uncle, Eugene Edward Johnson.
To us, he was more than a father—he was our teacher, our hero, our protector. He was always there with a joke, a lesson, or a helping hand, no matter the distance or time. His life wasn’t always easy, but he met it with strength and resilience that left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Services will be held at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, NY, on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at North Byron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Justin’s memory may be made to Operation home front. Operation Homefront, a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, builds strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive, not simply struggle to get by, in the communities - OUR communities - they have worked so hard to protect.
Rest easy, Dad. We love you more than words could ever say. Your memory will live on through us—always. Written with love by his daughter, Jade Johnson
