Robert W. Emens, 85, of Batavia passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Wednesday September 23, 2015 at his residence. He was born February 12, 1930 to the late Fred H. (Jean Whitney) Emens.

Robert lived in Batavia since 1941. Graduate of Batavia High School in 1947 and Alma College in Michigan in 1952. U.S. Army Signal Corp 1952-54. Employed in father’s farm supply business as he had done while in school and college. Reporter for The Daily News 1959-63, WBTA News 1963-65 and correspondent for the old Buffalo Courier-Express 1964-65, Genesee County news correspondent for the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle and the now defunct Times-Union 1965-1978. Real Estate Broker, last with Optimum Real Estate until his retirement in October 1998. Trustee of Genesee Community College 18 ½ years retiring in February 1996. A Founding member of the committee that established Genesee County Conservation Education Field Days for area school children and was active with it until 1995. President of the Holland Purchase Historical Society 1974-1976. Married August 29, 1970 to  Brenda G. (Langdon) Emens of Batavia. Lifelong love of history, favorite reading-history and biography; all small animals, particularly cats.

Along with his wife, Robert is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sherrill and Barbara Langdon and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4PM on Saturday September 26, 2015 at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main St., Batavia, NY. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. He will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery.
