Marilyn J. Koch, 77, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Monday January 23, 2017 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born on January 1, 1940 in Cook County, KY to the late James and Myrle (Boothe) Hoover. In addition to her parents, Marilyn is predeceased by her husband Emmett W. Koch; daughter Pamela Eckert; siblings Roger and Pearl.

She loved her kids more than anything in the world, always putting them first. Marilyn was a strong willed woman who will be cherished by her family.

Marilyn is survived by her sons; Michael Fitzgerald, Kenneth Koch, and Daniel (Danielle) Koch, step son Hal Koch and daughter in law Susan Koch; brother Larry; sister Sharon and sister in law Grace; grandchildren Danielle (Christopher) Dwyer, Heather Krebs, Daniel Koch, Briana and Brittany Fitzgerald; great grandchildren Emma Dwyer, Carter Krebs, Cameron and Zoe Bradley along with many nieces and nephews and her faithful dog Susie aka Wiggles.

MARGARET A. HOFMANN

Age 79, of Attica, died peacefully Sunday afternoon January 15, 2017 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born November 16, 1937 in Alexander, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Gilhooly) Buckenmeyer, also preceded in death by siblings, Catherine Raines, Lucy Moag, Mary Falkowski, Dorothy Moynihan, Elizabeth, Charles & George Buckenmeyer.   

Margaret was truly devoted to her husband, James, over the last few years as his health deteriorated. She was a constant for her boys and grandsons, whom she always put first in her life. 

Surviving is her husband, James R. Hofmann Sr. of Batavia, and their sons, James R. (Laurene) Hofmann Jr. of Lima and their sons, Justin and Jason; Gregory (Kim Johnson) Hofmann of Fairport; brothers, Bernard (Geraldine) Buckenmeyer, Francis Buckenmeyer both of Alexander; sisters-in-law, Violet Buckenmeyer, Dorothy Buckenmeyer and Joan (Paul) Dickinson.

Byron – Richard S. “Dick” Penepent, 90, of Byron, passed away Friday, (January 20, 2017) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Mr. Penepent was born January 15, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Panepinto) Penepent.

He is the husband of Althea (Schramm) Penepent of Byron.  The two were married on November 21, 1953.

Dick is the former owner of WNY Concrete and was an avid gardener.

Surviving along with his wife are his children, Richard S. Penepent, II of Chili, Joseph A. (Jeanne) Penepent of Byron, Paul Penepent of Basiel, Switzerland, Jayne (Joseph Basile) Penepent of Greece and Dina (Joseph) Masi of Long Valley, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Penepent of Bergen; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Penepent, and Sophie Penepent both of Batavia.  16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive.

Dick is preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Elizabeth Penepent; a son, Eugene “Geno” Penepent; and brothers, Philip (late Constance) Penepent, Angelo Penepent, Francis Penepent, and Anthony Penepent, Jr.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Richard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish – St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main St., Batavia.    Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

Wannetah H. Pitz (88) died peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home surrounded by her children and the caring staff of LVG.  She was born November 22, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Foster Eugene Hall and Gladys Correen Pressler Hall.

Wannetah’s life was marked by her artistic talent, hospitality, love of society, generosity, and laughter.  Her family lived in Detroit, Michigan during her high school years where she was trained as an artist at the Cass Technical High School.  The friends she made during those years were always very precious to her.  She was married to Donald Frank Pitz on January 25, 1944.  They lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan while her husband earned his degree in architecture and then relocated to Camillus, New York.  During those years, Wannetah continued her art education at University of Michigan and Syracuse University.

Wannetah used her talent in a variety of jobs during her life including as layout artist for newspaper advertisement for the Globe Department Store, Activities Assistant at Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home, and as an employee with Craftime Store from which she retired in 1991.

Wannetah reveled in the company of others and often welcomed others into her home whether it was a resident at the Nursing Home for Thanksgiving Dinner, a dear friend, or a young person who needed a safe, calm haven for a time.  She was an avid bridge player, participating in several bridge clubs and hosting her Monday morning kitchen bridge group for several years.  Her children recall the evening parties while they were growing up and how their mother’s laughter would rise above all others as they listened from the stairs.

Wannetah was generous and tried to help others along the way through her service with Trinity Church, the Haas Scholarship Fund, the Flowering Twig at Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home, the Young Artist’s Award with the Arts Association of Northern New York, the Pitz Family Helping Hand Fund at Jefferson Community College, or with advice and guidance from someone who didn’t always have it easy but found beauty in life every day.

Wannetah is predeceased by her parents, husband Donald Frank Pitz; brother Warren Glenn (Alice) Hall;  sister and partner in gales of laughter Sue Vitale; and daughter-in-law, Donna Wildrick Pitz.  Surviving are brother-in-law William Vitale; niece Cindy Lewis; nieces Karen (Ray) Gauthier and Jane (John) Wills; nephews Michael Hall and Steve (Li Meng) Hall; sons Donn Andrew Pitz of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Scott Darwin Pitz of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and daughter Dorian Sue Pitz (Gregory) Ely of Batavia, New York.  For her grandchildren, Wannetah leaves wonderful memories of Campbell’s Point, summer camp in Northern New York, snow ice cream, and laughter, most of all laughter.  In the words of her grandchildren, “I am thinking of how great a laugh Grammy had, it would die down almost to a sigh and then start up all over again.  So great. It was contagious.”  Wannetah was very proud of her intelligent, handsome and lovely grandchildren: Scott Linton Pitz of Baltimore, Maryland; Kathyrn Lee (Ed Yoo) Pitz of Brooklyn, New York; Cody Read Pitz of Telluride, Colorado; Alexandra Corinne (Rachel Lang) Pitz of Brooklyn, New York; Eva Cassandra Pitz of Pittsburgh, Pennyslvania; Samantha Johanna Pitz of St. Louis, Missouri; Elizabeth Nita (Michael) Collee of Batavia, New York; and R. Willets Ely of Queens, New York.

Evelyn E. Russell, 79 of East Pembroke, passed away Tuesday January 17, 2017 surrounded by her family at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born July 26, 1937 in South Butler, NY to the late Paul (Mable Griffin) Graham. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond G. Russell.

Mrs. Russell worked for many years at Angelica in Batavia. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them all very much.  

She is survived by her loving children Christine ( Randy) Klawer of East Pembroke; Patricia Turner of AL; Ricky (Lynn) Ball of PA; William (Nina) Ball of Batavia; Robert (Cheryl) Ball of Batavia; Linda (Paul) Bisig of Batavia; Pamela “Rustie” (Louis) Reeb of Corfu; siblings William (Charlotte) Graham, Albert Graham both of Batavia; Nelson Graham of IL; Carolyn Epps of Batavia; special neighbors Paul (Kim) McCollough of East Pembroke, 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and “adopted” family members.

ELEANOR R. KINGSLEY

Age 89, of Pavilion, died Monday January 16, 2017 at Orchard Manor Nursing in Medina. She was born February 13, 1927 in Perry, NY daughter of the late Willard and Esther (Watkins) Creveling also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Kingsley in 2009, sister, Naomi Upham; grandchildren, Kurt Kingsley and Denise Kingsley. 

Mrs. Kingsley was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her family and for many years owned and operated Country Fabrics. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, ceramics and was always ready to see her son-in-law, Bill Pitcher's band perform. 

Surviving are her devoted children, Sandra (Mike) Whalen of Pavilion, Cheryl (Bill) Pitcher of Batavia, Craig (Linda) Kingsley, Dennis Kingsley and Douglas Kingsley all of Pavilion; grandchildren, Andrew (Jane) Whalen, Mark (Gail) Whalen & Robert Whalen, Tim and Adam Pitcher, Molly (late Arthur) Smith, Cara (Rob) LaPoint, Casey (Mike) Tucci, Kate (Travis) Sic, Kim (Mark) Kinney, Krystal Kingsley, Amy Kingsley (Chad) and Jamie (Chad) Leuer; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. 

Eleanor's family will be present from 5-6p.m. Sunday January 22, 2017, at the Dibble Family Center 4110 West Main Street Rd. GEORGE W. CROCKER

Age 85, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday January 15, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born June 10, 1931 in Batavia, NY a son of the late Ward B. and Frances (Muxworthy) Crocker, also preceded in death by his first wife, Donna J. (Manning) Crocker in 1983 and his daughter, Jacqueline Serrano in 2014. 

George was a 1949 graduate of Batavia High School was a United States Marine Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the former Sylvania company in Batavia. He was an avid sports fan, love to play golf and was a member of the VFW Post #1602 in Batavia. George was a family man who especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Surviving is his wife of 16 years, Nancy (Colton) Crocker of Batavia; his children, Renee (Donald) Gavenda of Batavia, Thomas (Nancy) Crocker of San Diego, CA, Jon (Laura Gonzalez) Crocker of Batavia and step-daughter, Amy Knight of Penfield; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren survive along with many friends.

Betty W. Estabrook, age 93, of Perry, passed away on Sunday January 15, 2017 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing. Betty was born in Holley, New York on August 23, 1923 a daughter of the late Frank W. and Dortha (Maxon) Warne. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Paul Estabrook who passed away in 1969; a son Burton Estabrook who passed away in 1996; a grandson Adam Webster who passed away in 2015 and a brother Calvin Warren who passed away in 2006.

Betty was a 1942 graduate of Batavia High School. She worked many years at the family business the former Warne’s Furniture store in Perry. She served with the US Navy Waves during WWII. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry.

She is survived by a daughter; Gail (Bruce) Webster of Warsaw; a son Alan (Margaret Bank) Estabrook of Brighton; a daughter-in-law Deborah Estabrook of Cincinnati, OH., sister-in-law Norma Warne of Fl.; grandchildren Paul (Molly Flaherty) Webster, Michael Webster, Jennifer Webster, Bradley (Leslie) Rosenthal and Stephanie (Gary) Cooper; 7 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. A 3:00PM Graveside Service will be held on Saturday January 21, 2017 at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry where she will be laid to rest.

 Albert H. Maxwell, 91, of Melbourne, FL formerly from Batavia, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 with family by his side. 
Albert was born April 7, 1925 in Alden. He served in WWII from 1944-1946 as a member of the 89th Infantry Division where he received the Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Al was a loyal truck driver for Tyler Truck Lines for many years until he retired in 1990. In the past, he enjoyed fishing, some traveling, line dancing, movies and dining out. 

Al is survived by his children; Richard (Darleen) Maxwell of Batavia; Judy (Al Paolucci) of Melbourne, FL; Jeff (Sandy) Maxwell of Oakfield; Becky Downs of Melbourne, FL; and his dearest companion, Josephina Moreno and her children. He was predeceased in death by his son, Albert H. Maxwell II. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Burial will be in Cary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. 

 

LeRoy ~ Lynette C. "Scottie" Graham, age 78, of Griswold Circle, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning (January 15, 2017) in the loving presence of her family.

     She was born April 25, 1938 in Glasgow, Scotland, a daughter of the late John and Christina Brock Laughlin. 

     Scottie traveled to America in 1952 by herself, as a 12 year old aboard the ocean liner, Mauretania, to live with her sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Richard Ladd.  Her sister, Helen, who had been in America for a few years with Richard, a WWII soldier, that she met and married in Scotland, had arrived here in 1948 as a war bride.  They paid Scottie's passage here to give her a chance at a better life in America.

     She first lived with them in Batavia and then they moved to LeRoy, where she has resided ever since.  She graduated from LeRoy Central School in 1956.  This is where she got the nickname "Scottie".  She also met her future husband, David Graham, here as well.  She became an American citizen in 1961 before she was married.  She and David married on October 14, 1961 and celebrated their 55th anniversary this past October.

     In 1988, Scottie began her career at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.  She never dreamed she would be there for 29 years.  She was an Angel to so many patients that were on the same journey that she has now gone through.  Lynette believed that we have many angels amongst us and in the final days of our lives, they are present to guide us peacefully home to our Lord.

     She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband, David; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Mark Tomaszewski; granddaughters, Conor Rose Tomaszewski and Krysta Graham Tomaszewski; sister, Helen L. Ladd; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Marty Graham, "grand-dog", Harley Tomaszewski, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Cavanaugh, Christina Campbell, Isabelle Laughlin and Hugh Laughlin; in-laws, John and Isabelle Graham; brother-in-law, Richard Ladd and sister-in-law, Nancy Graham Grayson Heath.

     A special thank you to mom's niece, Leslie, for staying by mom's side and the family's.

     The family also wants to thank the Homecare & Hospice people for all their wonderful care to both Scottie and her family.

     There will be No Prior Calling Hours.  Graveside services will be announced at a later date in the spring.

Rochester ~ Louis R. Baglio, age 91, passed away early Sunday morning (Jan. 15, 2017) at Unity Hospital.

    

He was born November 1, 1925 in Perry, NY, a son of the late Frank and Frances Hinrich Baglio.

     Mr. Baglio was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by his family.  He was a very proud U.S. Marine veteran.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling with his wife and doing ancestry research.  He was also a retiree from Bausch & Lomb, where he worked for many years as an accountant.

     He is survived by his children, Cheryl (David) Dillman of Rochester, Brenda Williams of Bergen and Craig (Patricia) Baglio of Rochester; grandchildren, Jason (Whitney) Rowland, David (Christine) Dillman, Robert (Lisa) Williams, Aimee (Jeff) Clauss, Jennifer (Frank) Trigilio, Christopher Williams, Samantha Williams, Nicholas Baglio, Brian Baglio, Joshua Baglio, Zachary Baglio, Sara Baglio and Matthew Baglio, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous cousins.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Jeanette Baglio in 2011.

     Family and friends are invited to his Rite of Christian Burial on Friday, Jan. 20 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.  Interment with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.

Batavia - Anne M. Garlock, 78, of Batavia, former owner of Anne Garlock Office Products in Geneseo, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Unity Living Center, in Rochester.

Mrs. Garlock was born August 27, 1938 in Warwick, RI, a daughter of the late Waldo and Katherine (Talty) Nichols.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Batavia.  She was on the Board of Trustees at Genesee Community College for 10 years, member of the Batavia Rotary Club where she received the Paul Harris Fellow and served as the costume mistress for several Rotary Shows. 

Prior to moving to Batavia, she was active in a parent’s organization at St. Catherine’s Church in Warwick R.I. where she received the inspiration to organize community events. She served on the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce and was the founding organizer of the Batavia Wing-Ding/Summer in the City event.  In her capacity as a member of the Genesee Arts Council, she served as the founding organizer of the Picnic in the Park. 

She was a past president of the Genesee Memorial Hospital League, served in a variety of school based activities, volunteered at the NYS School for the Blind, March of Dimes and was a member of the Batavia Jayncees and Lioness Clubs.  She received the honor of "Woman of the Year" from in Zonta Club in 1995. 

She enjoyed lending her artistic ability to many events including clown face painting, doing make-up for Rotary Shows and decorating for formal affairs.  She touched many lives by being a force behind so many endeavors.  She was a great person without ever thinking she was great.

She is survived by her husband, J. Peter Garlock, whom she married August 29, 1959; 5 children, Timothy (Bethany) Garlock of Batavia, Julie (Kevin) Klabunde of PA, Susan Francis (Fiancée John Zola), Scott (Lynn) Garlock and Sara Tenney, each of Batavia; a brother, William Nichols of RI; 2 sisters, Catherine Atkinson and Margaret Toole, both of RI; a sister-in-law, Roslyn Nichols of RI; 2 brothers-in-law, Thomas Scanlon of RI and Richard (Kathy) Garlock of SC; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late Thomas Richard Garlock and sister of the late James Nichols and Maureen Scanlon.

Batavia - Ruby Mae Frisby, 92, of Batavia, a self-employed housekeeper in Batavia, died Friday, January 13, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, in Buffalo.

Mrs. Frisby was born July 28, 1924 in Dansville, NY, a daughter of the late Charles and Flora (Riber) Hasselbeck.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Batavia.

She is predeceased by her husband, Van Frisby, Sr., who died in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Roxanne Arnone of Attica; a son, Donald (Melody) Frisby of LeRoy; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Frisby of Batavia; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  

She was the mother of the late Sharon Frisby, Ricky Frisby, and Vance Frisby and sister of the late Ray Hasselbeck and Isabell Conrad.   

Services will be Private.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia, NY.  Memorials may be made to Western New York Heroes, 8203 Main St., Suite #11, Williamsville, NY 14421.  Arrangements were completed by Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E.
