Obituaries

 Age 84, of Oakfield, retired owner of Lester Johns, Inc. died peacefully Sunday June 5, 2011 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born October 17, 1926 in Oakfield, NY son of the late Harry & Bertha (Rechter) Johns, also preceded in death by a brother Harry Johns and sister Mary Schultz. A WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Johns was the owner and operator of his excavating company for many years. An active member of the Oakfield community, he was a member of the Oakfield Lions Club, Oakfield Rod & Gun Club, Life Member of the Oakfield Fire Dept. and the American Legion. A wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather who enjoyed hunting, fishing and had a passion for farming.

     Surviving is his wife of 45 years Pauline (Marks) Johns of Oakfield; sons Robert (Kay) Brion, James (Susan) Brion, Gregory Johns all of Oakfield; his daughters Leslie (Richard) Stauss, Linda (Raymond) Smith both of Oakfield, Lizabeth (Lyle) Starkweather of Basom and Barbara Rose of Port Charlotte, FL; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

     Family and friends may visit from 4-8 PM Wednesday June 8, 2011 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday June 9, 2011. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery and memorials in Lester's memory are suggested to the Oakfield Fire Dept. or Hospice Buffalo 225 Como Park Blvd. Cheektowaga, New York 14227.

Donald A. Butts, 66, of Batavia died Friday (June 3, 2011) in Rochester.

He was born in Dunkirk, NY on November 30, 1944 a son of the late Frank and Julia Barber Butts.

Mr. Butts was a principal of Albion Central Primary School prior to his retirement.  He was a loyal and dedicated educator with an intense desire to motivate his staff.  He was a member and past president of the Albion Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Award for exemplary service.  Participating in fundraising activities was one of his enjoyments and educating his children was his strong passion in life.  Being a good example to his children was one of his strong traits.  Sunday mornings were dedicated to making pancakes for his family after church. Don was a member of the School Administrators Association of NYS and Ascension Parish in Batavia.

Surviving is his wife of over 42 years, Marie A. Panek Butts whom he married on June 29, 1968.  Two daughters and sons in law; Michelle and Brian Trott of Pittsford, NY and Melissa and Ruhong Ma of Bethesda, MD.  His son and daughter in law, Donald J. and Kristen Butts of Milford, CT.  Two grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Trott.  A brother, Richard Butts of Fredonia, NY  A sister, Shirley Schaffer of North Carolina.  His mother in law, Violet (late Albert) Panek of Elba.  Brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.  He was the brother of the late Frank and Robert Butts.

Family and friends may call Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the  J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATVIA where prayers will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Church).  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

 Marie C. “Mady” McConnell, 83 of Batavia, died June 2, 2011  at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia. She was born  October 17, 1927 in Batavia, NY to the late Anthony  and Agnes (Aquino) Antignani. Mrs. McConnell was retired from Batavia Tailors where she worked for 20 years and prior to that she worked at Kresge’s. She was a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph’s), the Altar & Rosary Society of the Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who also enjoyed cooking. She is preceded in death by her brother Louis Antignani.

She is survived by her sons Gordon McConnell of Oakfield, and Brian (Diane) McConnell of Rochester. Two grandchildren Christopher (Kimberly) McConnell and Erin (Derrick) DiCesare, and two great grandchildren Mady Marie McConnell and Connor Ryan DiCesare and a sister May Sorge of California also survive.

Patricia J. Twichell, 71 of Oakfield. Died June 1, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born January 24, 1940 in Buffalo, New York to the late Floyd Hill (Ethel G. Greenman) Thomas. Mrs. Twichell was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Twichell, son Paul C. Twichell and sister Betty Baker.
                                                                                                                        

She is survived by her son Steve (Janet) Twichell of Piffard, daughter Rolanda Mogenhan of Pavilion, Brothers Floyd (Judy) Thomas Jr. of Cheektowaga and James (Joan) Thomas of Cornelius, NC.  Sisters Evelyn Sanders of Batavia, Nancy Sanders of Florida and Carol Sevor of Brockport survive along with 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Also her caregiver and niece for the last 16 years Bonnie Gendron of Oakfield.

Marilyn Sheehan, 72 of Batavia, NY. Died May 30, 2011 at her home. Born October 29, 1938 in Rochester New York to the late Wilber (Lillian Sage) Watson. Mrs. Sheehan was retired from Angelica Laundry in Batavia. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She leaves behind her favorite dog Teddy, cat Midnight and a cockatiel. She will be remembered, honored and missed by her companion Denny, family, friends and church members who loved her like family. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, family research and Indian Pow Wow’s. She was preceded in death by her husband John Sheehan, sister Kathleen Watson, brothers Levi, Robert, Raymond, Bernard, Gordon, and Floyd Patnode and William Watson. 

She is survived by her companion Denny Rhodes of Batavia, brothers Edward “Teddy” Patnode of Newark, Burton Patnode of Palmyra and sister Jean Desmith of Texas. Also nieces and nephews Ginnie Lane of North Chili, Jessica Lane of Livonia, William Watson Jr. of Livonia, Charlene Pascuzzi of Albion and James Watson of Rochester.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will take place on Saturday June 4, 2011 at 2 PM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 601 North Street, Batavia, NY 14020.

     Age 14, of Byron, died Tuesday May 3, 2011. She was born September 23, 1996 in Batavia to James F. Thorman & Catherine A. Kurzdorfer of Byron. She was a student at Byron-Bergen, she enjoyed bike riding, computers and swimming. She was very much looking forward to getting her drivers license so she could drive  a car and a motorcycle. Caroline had a love for animals especially her pets Riley and Shana.

     Surviving along with her parents are twin siblings Amber and Adam Thorman of Byron, paternal grandfather James E. Thorman of TX along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

     Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Caroline's Life 11:00 AM Saturday June 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church 8221 Lewiston Road Batavia, New York 14020. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family.

Lynne M. Johnson, 61 of Batavia. Entered into rest May 31, 2011 following a short illnes at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Born July 6, 1949 in Batavia, New York to the late Norman “Sy” Johnson and Mary (Lang) Johnson of Batavia. Ms. Johnson was employed by Five Star Bank and Wal-Mart, prior to that she worked for over 20 years at Tops Market where she started at the age of 16. Lynne enjoyed working with the public. She loved her four cats and flowers. She is preceded in death by her sister Bonnie Glenz in 2009.
                                                                                                                        
In addition to her mother she is survived by her brothers Charles Johnson, Mark (Susan) Johnson, Steven Johnson and Paul Johnson all of Batavia.  Sisters Kristie (Robert) Stack of  Batavia, Cathie Johnson of Batavia, Annette (Paul) Palmer of Spencerport, Mary (Matthew) Baldwin of Darien Center, a brother in law Arthur Glenz of Rochester and her dear friend Sam Pilato of Batavia. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, and cousins also survive.

Morris (Robinson), Patricia A., 66 of Batavia, passed from this world into Glory on May 29, 2011. She was met at the gates of heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her husband Raymond, and many other beloved friends and relatives who had gone before her. She is survived by her children Michael (Tammy), David (Carrie), Gary (Lisa) Wiest, Debby Owen, Mary (John) Bauer, Joseph (Ashley) and Beth Muniz, Amber Morris, brothers Shelby (Linda), Gary (Kathy), and Marty (Pam) Robinson; numerous grandchildren/ great-grandchildren nieces and nephews.
 

Patricia had a passion for touching peoples’ lives and dedicated her whole being mothering many. She also enjoyed gardening, singing, and cooking. She especially enjoyed singing with her brother Shelby and her children.
 

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 PM on Wed. June 1st at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 W. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020 and 9:15 to 10:00 on Thur. June 2nd at the at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank St. Rd. Batavia, NY 14020, Funeral Services will follow at 10 AM. Age 90, of Batavia, longtime Pastor of the Church of Brotherly Love in Elba died peacefully at Friendship Village Healthcare in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday May 7, 2011. A complete obituary with visitation and service times will appear Monday May 9, 2011.

Anna L. Richmond, 85 of Batavia. Died May 24, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Born June 30, 1925 in Batavia, New York. She is daughter of the late Joseph (Margaret Spiotta) Pappalardo. Mrs. Richmond was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church and lifetime member of the former St. Nicholas club in Batavia. She loved her dog Molly. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard R. Richmond (2003); daughter Karen Richmond; granddaughter Rachel A. Richmond; sister Theresa Valle; brother-in-law James Richmond.
                                                                                                                                         She is survived by her sons Richard (Cynthia) Richmond II of Batavia; Robert Richmond of Batavia; sister Dolores (Donald) Richardson of Batavia; sisters-in-law Helen Richmond; Patricia (Charles) Mundy; Dorothy Cole; Edeltrude Richmond all of Niagara Falls, NY; grandchildren Joseph R., Michael A. and Amber M. Richmond all of Batavia; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
