Robert J. Eldridge

Robert J. Eldridge, 60, of Perry passed away on Saturday January 26, 2019 at his home. Robert was born in North Hornell, NY on May 1, 1958 a son of the late Armand and Eleanor (Miles) Eldridge. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Raymond and Gerald Eldridge.

He worked for the former Eastern Moldings in Batavia as a mechanic and for Harding’s Heating and Plumbing in Perry as a plumber. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saint in Warsaw. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 18 years where he would speak at many meetings and organizations about his recovery and help others in their recovery. He enjoyed motorcycles, weight lifting, rebuilding vehicles, woodworking and time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by 3 daughters; Kimberly (Jeffrey Murphy) Wilson, Marie (Richard) Stone and Julie Eldridge all of Perry; a step-son Patrick Gell of Pflugerville, TX.; 5 sisters Patricia (Dick) Croston, Linda (Herbert) Mitchell, Lenora (Walter) Gilbert, Nancy (Robert) Drake, Gayle (Michael) McKinney; 5 brothers Armand (Kathryn Eldridge, Thomas (Tammy) Eldridge, Michael Eldridge, David (Yvonne) Eldridge, Peter Eldridge; 2 sisters-in-law Carol Eldridge and Darlene Eldridge; 12 grandchildren Dyllin, Jazmin, Zachary, Victoria, Alexander, Ryan, Alyssa, Sadie, Anthony, Julissa, Caleb and Ian, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Victor M. Corey Jr.

  Victor M. Corey Jr., 81, of Byron, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.  He was born in Batavia on November 6, 1937, to the late Victor M. Corey Sr. and Edna J. (Spencer) Corey.

Vic was a United States Army veteran who served overseas in Schweinfurt, Germany, where he met his wife of 61 years, Rosemarie.  He worked for many years at Oxbo as a technical illustrator.  Vic was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and ice skating, and was an ardent outdoorsman who loved to hunt.  He was also an enthusiastic Sabres fan and was extremely mechanical, having built both a working tank and Humvee piece by piece.  His friends and family will fondly remember his appreciation for corny jokes and his talent as an artist.  Vic was a very talented artist who loved painting and woodcarving.  His art was often displayed in the area, including at Go Art and the Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia, and at the Art Council for Wyoming County in Perry. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie G. Corey; children Cinda (Tom) Quattrini of Byron and Jeffrey (Donna) Corey of Byron; sisters Jolene (Richard) Folger of Batavia and Linda Featherston of Homer, LA; grandchildren Vanessa (Ryan Favata) Phillips, Stephen (Camille) Quattrini, Timothy (Roxanne) Corey, Michael Fraser, and Richard Fraser; greatgrandchildren Victor, Skyler, Dani, Thomas, Jayna, Matthew, Anna, and Isabella; along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours or services as Vic’s wishes were to donate his body to the U of R Anatomical Gift Program.  There will be a Memorial Service at a later date.

Seymour Steinberg

Batavia - Seymour Steinberg, 90, of Batavia, longtime owner of Brenner's Jewelry in Batavia, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born April 14, 1928, in Brooklyn, a son of the late David and the late Anna (Halbrecht) Steinberg.

A member of Temple Emanu-El and B'Nai B'rith, he was also a member of the Lions Club of Batavia. He moved from Brooklyn when the Horowitz Shirt Factory moved to Batavia. A well-liked, well-respected businessman, he loved his family and his grandchildren. Mr. Steinberg proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hella Fredrich Steinberg; his children, Dr. Mark (Joan) Steinberg of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Shari (Steve) Fauer of Manlius; five grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth and Daniel Steinberg,  Allie Fauer and Erin (Kevin) Williamson; his twin brother, Leo (Marion) Steinberg of East Amherst; and several nieces and nephews including Dr. Paul (Suzanne) Schulman of San Diego California.

He is predeceased by his sisters,  Beatrice Schulman and Helen Plaskin.

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, Batavia where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. He will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia. Peggy E. Stamp

Peggy E. Stamp, 90, of Alexander, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at her daughter's home in Henrietta under the care of her family and hospice.

Peggy was born June 9, 1928, in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Albert and Irene (O'Neil) Hughes.

Peggy was a head teller for Marine Midland Bank in Attica from 1968 to 1990 and was a hostess at Bob Evans in Batavia from 1995 to 2016. She was a member of the New York State Assessors' Association and sang with the Sweet Adelines.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Don Cretelle) Stamp of Henrietta; her brother, Al (Sue) Hughes of Leesburg, FL; her sister, Jerry (late Michael) Palumbo of Corfu and several nieces and nephews. 

Peggy is the wife of the late Adelbert A. Stamp. 

Calling hours are Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 4:00, also on Friday.  Peggy will be laid to rest in West Bethany Cemetery.

Marian F. Sisson

DUNKIRK/BATAVIA/BETHANY - Marian F. Sisson, 91, of Dunkirk, formerly of Batavia and Bethany, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk.

Marian was born November 15, 1927, in Avon, a daughter of the late John and Martha (Mulroy) Clark.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked with her husband as Family Care Providers in the Family Care Program from West Seneca Developmental Center for over 20 years.  Both she and her husband were awarded the "Top Home Care Providers" in the State of New York by the Western NY Developmental Disabilities Service Office (DDSO). 

Marian loved music and was an active participant in any activities involving music.  She loved flowers and tended to her own garden.  She was happiest as her life revolved around her family. 

She was the wife of the late Donald G. Sisson who died on June 24, 2009.

Survivors include 3 sons, Thomas (Rosemary) Sisson of Canandaigua, David (Dawn) Sisson of Batavia and Steven (Donna) Sisson of Richmond, VA; 2 daughters, Margaret Sisson (Sue Rocque) of Fredonia and Patricia (Richard) Hoagland of Fredonia; 7 grandchildren,  Brian (Cheryl) Sisson, Kristy Sisson Valdivia, Kevin (Cheryl) McAllister, Kailee Sisson, Andrea Sisson, Daniel Sisson and Caroline Sisson; 6 great-grandchildren, Drew Sisson, Lucy Sisson, Charly Sisson, Lucas McAllister, Brycen McAllister and Owen McAllister; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings, James (Helen) Clark, John Clark, Edward (Maureen) Clark, Marguerite (Deston) Paddock, Genevieve (Lewis) Paine, Martha (Gerald) Smith, Alice (Richard) Kosakowski and Dorothy (William) Stoltman.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St, Batavia.  Marian's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday at Resurrection Parish, St. Joseph's Church, 303 E. Main St., Batavia.  Burial, at a later date, will be in West Bethany Cemetery. Judd L. Crocker

LeRoy ~ Judd L. Crocker, age 82, of Selden Road, passed away Friday (January 25, 2019) at the LeRoy Village Green.

    

He was born May 30,1936 at the family home, a son of the late Clarence and Harriet (Hamilton) Crocker.

     Judd was a graduate of LeRoy High School class of 1954 and attended Cornell University where he earned a B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1958. While attending Cornell, Judd served in the US ARMY ROTC, moving on to active duty 1958-59 and US ARMY Reserves 1959-1968. Captain Rank.

     Upon returning home to LeRoy, Judd joined his brothers in joint business ventures growing and diversifying Crocker’s Farm Service Inc. In 1969 a Hardware store was added to the family business - Crocker’s Country Store.  As the business continued to grow, they became Crocker’s Ace Hardware in the 80’s. Upon retirement, Judd sold the hardware side of the business to his son, Brad Crocker and Dan Diskin in 1998. Judd continued to work at the hardware store part-time until the spring of 2018.

     On April 1,1966 Judd married the love of his life, Marilyn (Roth) Crocker. Together through 48 years, they enjoyed life and raising three children.

    Judd loved working and being involved in his community and supporting those within it. This love led to years of service including, St Mark’s Episcopal Church, LeRoy Jaycees, LeRoy Historical Society, and Friends of Machpelah.  He was an avid skier and served as a 25 year member of the National Ski Patrol at Swain Ski Center. Judd and his wife, Marilyn, enjoyed 2-3 week European ski vacations to Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy with the Rochester Ski Club.

    In retirement, Judd and Marilyn continued to travel, covering most of the U.S. and Canadian Provinces in their motorhome. They continued to share time equally between their home in LeRoy and their home in Florida, where they were involved once again within their local community and homeowner’s association.

    Judd will be missed by his children; June (Bill) Bailey, Cindy (Scott) Spear, and Brad

(Nicole Boyce) Crocker and grandchildren; Jacqueline (Joe) Flannigan, Briana Bailey, Ryan, Andrew and Rachel Spear, Benjamin and Cole Crocker, and Christina Woodrow. Brother, Louis (Ann) Crocker of LeRoy; a sister Zoe Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fl; several nieces and nephews and extended family. He was the brother of the late James Crocker and Suzanne Kolmetz.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday January 30 from 4-7 pm at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc in LeRoy. A service will immediately follow at 7 pm. Interment will be private in Machpelah Cemetary.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Church, LeRoy Historical Society or Friends of Machpelah.

Edward L. Boring

Batavia - Edward L. Boring, 86, of Batavia, formerly of Alabama, NY, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Batavia.

Mr. Boring was born January 26, 1932 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Lynn and Florence McElhoes Boring.

Mr. Boring worked for Agway for 30 years. He loved camping and enjoyed going out to eat. He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.

His wife, Betty A. Roche Boring, passed away in 2006.

He is survived by his son, Scott L. (Teri) Boring of Oakfield; his daughter, Tracy A. (Fiancé Dan Thayer) Snyder of East Pembroke; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Jean Shank.

There are no prior visiting hours. Services will be held on Friday, February 1st at 11 a.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Mr. Donald C. Baker

Elba - Donald C Baker, 86 of Elba, New York died on Tuesday Jan 22, 2019 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Don was born March 29, 1932 in Elba, New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Clyde and Beatrice Baker and 2 sisters Olive (Bea) Baker and Raya Baker.

He retired from Keeler Construction over 25 years.  He loved working with his hands.  Don's hobbies were making wood furniture, fishing, and gardening.  He enjoyed clam bakes in the back yard with family and friends. He was an Army Veteran serving his country from 1956-1962.

He leaves two daughters Diane ( Michael) Sweeney, Peggy (Gerald) Dilcher, 3 grand children and 4 great grand children all of Ft. Myers, Florida.  Sister Virginia Mancuso of LeRoy, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.  A loving and devoted companion Theresa Hamler and her family of LeRoy.

Kenneth J. Hall

Kenneth J. Hall, 63 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday January 23, 2019 in a farming accident in Groveland. He was born in Beacon, New York on December 5, 1955 a son to Kenneth M. Hall of Beacon and the late Anne (Loughran) Hall. Along with his mother he is preceded in death by his companion Nancy Baker who passed away in 2017.

He was a graduate of Beacon High School and Delhi College where he studied Agricultural Studies. Ken was a longtime farmer. He worked for Southview Farms for over 20 years, The Perry Vet Clinic and within the last couple years worked for Dairy Knoll Farm in Groveland.
He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan who enjoyed playing cards, fishing, going to the casino, working on computers or just spending time with his family.

He is survived by his three daughters; Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Stotts Sr. of Perry, Amanda (Michael) O’Brien of Midlothian, VA., and Stephanie (Donald) Beeman of Wheatfield, NY; his father Kenneth M. Hall of Beacon, NY; 2 sisters Patricia Hall of Syracuse and Eileen Hall of Columbia, MD.; the mother of his children Debra Hall of Warsaw; his late companion’s children Christopher Baker, Gregory and Matthew Lawrence all of Columbus, IN; 7 grandchildren Robyn, Katelyn and Jeffrey Jr. Stotts, Allison and Conner Beeman, Alexander and Lincoln O’Brien, along with several nieces and nephews.

David L. "Dirty" McCurdy

  David L. “Dirty” McCurdy, 76, of Batavia passed in peace on January 22, 2019 at Unity Hospital with his children and loving wife of 49 years by his side. He was born on December 24, 1942 in Batavia to the late George and Gladys (Weed) McCurdy. In addition to his parents, Dave is predeceased by his brother; Douglas McCurdy.  

Dave was a veteran of the Air Force who loved golfing, the Buffalo Bills, and a good Manhattan. We will miss his quick humor and wit. 

He is survived by his wife; Elizabeth (Merry) McCurdy of Batavia; children Katherine (Thomas) Willette of Penfield and John (Laura) McCurdy of Webster; sisters Gloria Olmsted of Buffalo and Dorothy Spear of Glenfield, NY; sister-in-law Patty McCurdy of Cato, NY; grandchildren Clare, Emma, Audrey, Ian and Aren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Donald H. Zich

Donald H. Zich, 76, of Akron, New York died on January 22, 2019, at the Gates Vascular Center in Buffalo, New York. 

Born on September 19, 1942, Mr. Zich was introduced to harness racing at a very early age as his uncle Herb Schweitzer raced a stable of horses at Vernon Downs. After working with his uncle and learning the business during the summer while still in school, he entered the military after graduation and served his country during the Vietnam conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Zich went right back to the track and started his lifelong participation in the sport he loved. 

During his active years of training and driving at Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway, Mr. Zich oversaw his own stable while also catch driving for many years. Horses he steered and conditioned included Tarzan Direct, Gypsy Zipper, Southcote Irish, Gemarillo, Win Jon, Laredo LST, Columbia Stone, Surginski, Hatchet Almahurst, Dovers Dolittle, Quality Wins, Fan Can Do, Flower Time, Two Smart, Cosmic Jolt and his pride and joy Fanny’s Filly, who he guided into being the Trotter of the Year in western New York in 1982. 

Mr. Zich was also a 30-year employee of General Motors at the Buffalo Engine Plant where he earned an associate’s degree as a skilled tradesman and worked as a tinsmith. 

In his spare time Mr. Zich was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time with his family. He was a friend to everyone at the track and he will certainly be missed by all those who knew him. 

Don Zich was the beloved husband of Elizabeth P. (nee Ralston) Zich for 53-years; devoted father of Tina M. (Timothy L.) Bojarski, Deborah A. (Darrin M.) Monti and Donald Zich; cherished grandfather of Dana, Lauren, Andrew, Donnie and Taylor; loving son of the late Fred and Mildred Zich; dear step-brother of Beverly; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Pauline L. Hamilton

Batavia - Pauline L. Hamilton, age 86, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Crossroads House.

Mrs. Hamilton was born November 18, 1932 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Anthony and Florence Puccio Ficarella.

A member of Resurrection Parish, Mrs. Hamilton was an account clerk at Western New York OTB in Batavia for 18 years.  She enjoyed crafts, flowers and crocheted many afghans for her family.

Her husband, Frederick B. Hamilton, Sr. passed away on December 12, 2003.

Survivors include three sons, Frederick B. Jr. (Cindy) Hamilton and Michael Hamilton both of Batavia and Phillip (Chris Kennedy) Hamilton of Warsaw; two daughters, Deborah (Mike) Deni of Batavia and Paula (Norman) Ernst of Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

She is the mother of the late Kathleen and Christal Hamilton; grandmother of the late Peter J. Scalia and sister of the late Al, Sr., Frank, Sam and Charles Ficarella, Mary Barone, Rose Schiavi and Florence DeFreze.

Robert E. "Bob" Kelsey

Robert “Bob” E. Kelsey, 83, of Alexander, NY passed away on January 16, 2019. He was born in Batavia, NY on March 4, 1935 to the late Erle and the late Fannie (Williams) Kelsey. He was predeceased by his siblings, Hazel Miller, Daniel Kelsey, Deforest William “Bill” Kelsey.

Bob had a love for anything outdoors. He loved Hunting, fishing, boating, 4 wheeling and spending time at Kelsey’s Pond with his family. He was on the Tuesday night bowling league , was a lifetime member of the VFW in Alexander, lifetime member of the Alexander Fire Department, a member of the Masonic Temple, and he was a member of the Town Board of Alexander. When you wanted to find Bob, he would be in his “office” in the garage. Bob will be extremely missed by his family, friends, and anyone that knew him. Camp Kelsey will never be the same!

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years; Margaret ( Pautler); his children Calvin (Meri) Kelsey, Lynne (Jeffrey) George, Robert W. Kelsey, Kerry (Michelle) Kelsey, Cindy M. (Mark Saunders) Reiner, Cheryl L. (Craig) Beebe, Christine L. (Jay) Bradley, and Carla J. Fugle; brother, Gordon (Gayleen) Kelsey; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

BATAVIA - Mary Lucy Swingle, 89, of Batavia, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mary was born August 20, 1929, in Batavia, the daughter of the late Louis C. and Leora Ann (Schultz) Warren.

She was a Sales Clerk for JC Penney's in Batavia, and member of the 1st Baptist Church.  She was the Chairman of the Tenant's Relations Committee for Birchwood Village for many years. 

Survivors include a son, Deacon Fredrick G. (Guadalupe) Swingle of Chula Vista CA; a daughter, Laurie (Sidney) Bennett of Batavia; 6 grandchildren, Valerie (John) Schlaggel of FL, Jonathan Bennett of North Tonawanda, Mary Beth (Derek) Robinson of Alden, Fredrick G. (Marjorie) Swingle, IV, and Michael A. Swingle; 4 great-grandchildren, Maxwell Schlaggel, Samantha Schlaggel, Fredrick G. Swingle V and Madelyn Swingle; and a sisters-in-law, Laura Warren of Cheektowaga and Norma Swingle of PA.         

She was predeceased by her brothers, Augustus C. Warren, Donald L. Warren and Leonard Warren.

Dorothy Jean Russell

BERGEN - Dorothy Jean Russell, 84, of Bergen, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at her home in Bergen.

Dorothy was born March 9, 1934, in Malone, NY, the daughter of the late Roy and Addie Grimshaw.

She was a baker at Gregory's Bakery in Bergen and had worked at the True Stitch Factory in Malone.  She had a large collection of cook books and was a member of the Ladies of Charity as well as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a 4H Leader.  She enjoyed ceramics and was active in bowling leagues at Mancuso's Lanes and at the Rose Garden Bowl.  She loved being home and taking care of her family.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Donald Patrick Russell, whom she married August 29, 1953; 4 children, Jeff (Brad Miller) Russell, Mary K. (Russell) Schramm and Tim Russell all of Bergen and Mike (Wendy) Russell of Byron; 7 grandchildren, Ronald H. Schramm, Jr. of Bergen, Stacy (Gerry) Russell Lane of Greece, Shannon (Dan Dutton) Russell of Batavia, Page Russell of Bergen, Rebecca (Haley) Ritchie, Michele (Jerid) Wilcox, and Sarah Ritchie all of Utah; 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan Schramm and Logan Schramm both of Webster and Wesley Wilcox and Reese Wilcox.  She was also survived by her extended family of several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and a lot of loving friends.

She was Predeceased by her brother the late Bobby Grimshaw and her late son-in-law, Ronald H. Schramm, Sr.

There will be no visitation. Funeral service and burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, 4955 N. Bailey Ave, #217, Amherst, NY 14226 as well as the American Heart Association of WNY, 5488 Sheridan Drive #300, Williamsville, NY 14231.  Mrs. Russell has been entrusted into the care of H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen, NY.
