The Village of Alexander will be hosting a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb 1, at the Alexander Rec Hall. The purpose of this meeting is to inform the public about plans for the possible replacement of the entire village water system.
Anyone receiving water from the Village of Alexander is encouraged to attend.
The Rec Hall is located at 10708 Alexander Road (Route 98), Attica.
Asteria String Quartet presents "First Viennese Valentine's" with music from the First Viennese School -- Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven -- on Saturday Feb. 3 at the Dibble Family Center in Batavia.
The chamber recital starts at 7 p.m.
Beforehand, starting at 6 p.m., the quartet will serenade you as you enjoy special hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and also non-alcoholic beverages.
Musicians for the evening are: Kiran Rajamani -- violin; Leighann Howland -- violin; Evie Boughton -- viola; and Shade Zajac -- cello.
On Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. the Alexander United Teachers Union will be hosting a Community Health and Wellness Fair, open to the public, at the Alexander Central School’s High School Cafeteria.
This is the third biannual Health and Wellness Fair hosted by the Teacher’s Union.
The Alexander Volunteer Fire Department will host an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast in its Rec Hall from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 28.
The Rec Hall is located at 10708 Alexander Road (Route 98), Attica.
Cost is: adults -- $10; children 5-12 -- $5; under age 4 -- free.
Also, there will be an indoor bounce house.
(FYI: On March 25 there will be another breakfast, same details, and the Easter Bunny will visit!)

The third ARTiculations Ability Exhibition -- a forum for artists with disabilities in Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans counties to display their work publicly -- will open at Independent Living of the Genesee Region (ILGR) in Batavia on Jan. 19.
The Oatka Creek in Le Roy is ready for skating. There will be a community skate and pick-up hockey game starting at 10 a.m.

A fundraiser for a family whose 6-month-old daughter is recuperating from brain surgery will be held this Saturday, Jan. 6, at Sacred Heart Social Center in Batavia. It is located at 17 Sumner St.
"Caring for Kailyn" will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. and feature delicious food catered by the Dibble Family Center as well as a cash bar and live music from the OHMS Band. There will also be a Chinese auction and silent auction.

Learn how to borrow and download the library’s eBooks and magazines to your mobile devices (smart phones and tablets). These items are free to use, books return automatically with no late fees, and magazines may be downloaded and saved indefinitely.
The Holland Land Office Museum will host a Society Members Holiday Open House from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28.
The Wonderland of Trees is underway and will be through the end of the month. While viewing trees during the open house, you can voted for your favorite.
It will also be a perfect time to renew your membership in the HLOM Society. Forms will be available in the Joseph Ellicott Book Store.
Light refreshments will be served. Every member attending will receive a holiday gift.

There will be a free, public Open Labyrinth Walk for Peace fro, 4 to 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia on Friday, Dec. 29.
A Community Group Compassion Meditation will take place at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 300 E. Main St.

Blue Pearl Yoga is sponsoring the walk and the meditation -- "mind-body practices."

The public is invited to a City of Batavia Downtown Revitaliation Initiative Public Workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. tomorrow (Dec. 14). It will be held at City Hall, One Batavia City Centre.
The question is "What Brings You Downtown?" and your input is sought on the future of Downtown Batavia, which has been awarded $10 million from the state for this initiative. The initiative's Local Planning Committee would like to know what you love about downtown and what amenities would bring you there more often.

Renowned soprano Emily Hellenbrook, who is a native of Alexander, will be the featured soloist at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia this Sunday, Dec. 10.
The service begins at 10:45 a.m. and will also feature the Women's Choir, congregational singing, and a message by Rev. Dr. Roula Alkhouri.
