Two Genesee Region League girls basketball players earned Player of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 2-8.

Holley's Julie Brooks hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to send the Hawks into overtime against Medina on Friday. The Hawks won the game 39-32 in overtime, giving the squad its first win in two years, and Brooks - a sophomore - finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds and won the award for GR Division I.

Holley lost to Kendall 28-22 on Monday night.

Junior forward Molly Burgess of Lyndonville won the award for Division II after scoring 40 points in two games at the Barker Tournament.

She had 10 points and nine rebounds against Barker and made the All-Tournament Team.

There were no nominations for the boys in the GR this week.

Batavia's Brittany Mazurkiewicz earned the honor for Monroe County in the opening week of the season after scoring 35 points with 11 steals and four assists in the Alexander Tournament, where she earned MVP honors.

Guy Hills and his Holley football team are looking to get their first win of the season. It has been a long, difficult struggle but Pool Play is for building for the following year and that's exactly what coach Chad DeRock is looking to do.

Warsaw (0-7) at Elba/Byron-Bergen (2-4)

The Lancers won a much needed game last week, dropping Section 6's Bishop Walsh 34-16. Zach Green continued to impress, gaining 255 yards with two touchdowns in the game. Elba/B-B is looking to build on that victory and get the returning players from Elba and Byron-Bergen confidence heading into the offseason.

Barker (1-6) at C.G. Finney (4-2)

Barker nearly shocked top-seeded Clyde Savannah in Class DD last week, showing how good the Genesee Region League is, losing 7-6. Greg Brown and his teammates can be proud of that effort, but will be tested against Finney, which was upset by Perry last week in Class D.

Red Jacket (1-6) at Alexander (3-4)

The junior-filled Trojans were thrilled after a 3-3 regular season and then disappointed after penalties killed them in a 28-14 loss to Canisteo-Greenwood last week in the opening round of the playoffs. The juniors just want to keep playing and getting better.

The Oakfield-Alabama football team wrapped up an undefeated season Friday with a 45-6 drubbing of Holley.

 It is the first time the Hornets have gone 7-0 since 1986 and the 10th seeded team in the state for Class C will enter the Section 5 Class C playoffs with a No. 2 seed.

Brad Riner had a great final regular season game, gaining 134 yards with three touchdowns on just six carries. His TDs came from 9, 40 and 52 yards.

A.J. Kehlenbeck had a touchdown run and threw a 15-yard TD pass to tight end Noah Seward and Joe Natalizia scored on a 5-yard run.

Jon Fisher kicked a 38-yard field goal.

Josh Athoe had 10 tackles.

Guy Hills threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Sean Baylor for the Hawks, who end the regular season with an 0-7 record and are heading to Pool Play.

 Holley (0-6) at Oakfield-Alabama (6-0)

7 p.m. Friday

The Hornets won the Genesee Region League title last week with a thrilling 25-24 victory over Pembroke as the two undefeated squads went blow-for-blow in front of about 2,500 fans.

With the playoffs just a week away, the Hornets just need to avoid a major let-down to clinch the No. 2 seed. O-A can still get the top seed in Class C if they win and Hornell beats Le Roy Friday night.

Oakfield-Alabama is the 10th ranked team in the state.

Tim Smith and Brad Riner had huge games for the Hornets in the title-clinching win and will look to wrap up the regular season by adding to their impressive rushing totals.

Smith has 771 yards and 11 touchdowns on 95 carries and Riner has pitched in a solid 505 yards and seven touchdowns on 89 attempts. Riner also had the big 2-point conversion run to give the Hornets the win last week.

Jason Stanley has picked up 260 yards and Josh Athoe has 105 and will likely each get some carries.

With such a mismatch, O-A might try to work on some things before the playoffs start, and that could lead to some passing by A.J. Kehlenbeck.

The senior QB has had a very good year - going 13-of-26 for 145 yards and four TDs - and may get a chance to open things up a bit before the second team gets in the game.

Oakfield-Alabama's defense is as good as the offense as the team has scored 241 points and given up just 91.  That unit is led by a big, physical defensive line.

Chris Williams leads the way with 32 tackles with Riner and Noah Seward each pitching in 27.

These guys will have the job of shutting down the Holley rushers.

The Hawks have not had a lot of luck moving the ball this season and are looking to get through this game and attempt to contend in Pool Play.

Kyle Steadman has emerged as the top rusher for Holley and scored twice in a 50-15 loss to Attica last week. Guy Hills can also make plays for the Hawks.

Holley beat Kendall 1-0 at home Tuesday night to move into 1st place for the first time this year.  It is the first time Holley has been in 1st place alone in quite a while (i would guess 3 or 4 years).  Holley currently sits 10-2-2 with 1 game left (@ Alexander Thursday) while Pembroke sits 10-3-1 with 1 game left (@ Attica Thursday).  With a tie or win by Holley or a loss or tie by Pembroke Holley will be division champs.  Pembroke needs a win and a Holley loss to win the division.  This is the first time since 2004 that the division title has gone down to the last day of the season.

Andy Ruddock only needed 14 carries to rack up 123 yards with a touchdown to lead Attica to a 50-15 win over visiting Holley.

 Quarterback Brandon Rollins had a huge game, connecting on 11-of-13 passes for 205 yards and three scores. He tossed two of those touchdowns to Shawn Dupuis, who had 137 receiving yards on seven carries.

Nate Berry also had a big game and rushed for 105 yards with two scores.

Kevin Gallinger had 12 tackles to lead the Blue Devil (4-2) defense.

Holley falls to 0-6.

 Holley (0-5) at Attica (3-2)

7 p.m. Friday

The Blue Devils are looking to bounce back after a tough loss against Oakfield-Alabama last week.

Attica is currently the No. 7 seed in Class B and will probably need to win its final two games to secure a playoff berth.

Holley has really struggled this season and Attica should be able to roll in this one, but will have Pembroke in the final week of the season.

Expect a heavy dose of Andy Ruddock in this game, at least the first half.

Ruddock has rushed for 724 yards on eight touchdowns on 73 attempts this season and will probably gain over 100 yards in the first half of this game.

He is a featured back and the Hawks struggle against the run. Notre Dame had two runners get over 100 yards each last week in a 34-14 win and Pembroke had 300 yards running the previous week.

Nate Berry has 120 yards and Luke Pariso has 124 this season, so those two runners could also get plenty of work.

Brandon Rollins and Shawn Dupuis are a solid passing duo as Rollins has completed 34-of-57 attempts for 460 yards and eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Dupuis has a great chance of making the GR all-star team as a receiver as he has hauled in 16 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns.

Attica's defense is also solid, led by Pariso's 45 tackles. Kevin Gallinger (35), Kyler Dabolt (31) and Dave Jennings (30) are all over 30 tackles on the season.

 The Holley football team was playing under rented lights Friday, and from what I've been told there were not enough to make the game watchable on that field.

There was no scoreboard rented for the game, so the Hawks hosted yet another game without anybody knowing how much time was gone in each quarter.

But those lights that were rented by Holley were turned off in a hurry as Notre Dame nearly doubled the offensive production the Hawks had and picked up an easy 34-14 victory.

The Fighting Irish led 14-0 after the first quarter, 21-6 at the half, 28-14 after three and then 34-14 at the end.

Notre Dame had 330 yards of offense while Holley could muster just 180.

Kevin SChildwaster led all rushers with 18 carries for 120 yards and three touchdowns with Mike Pratt pitching in 102 yards and two scores on 15 attempts.

Nick Bochicchio completed 7-of-8 pass attempts.

Kyle Steadman led Holley (0-5) with 40 rushing yards on seven carries with Sean Baylor leading all tacklers with 12.

Rick Lair had eight tackles to lead Notre Dame (3-2).

 Notre Dame (2-2) at Holley (0-4)

The Fighting Irish lost against Pembroke in the opening week of the season and bounced back to beat Attica.

They lost to Oakfield-Alabama last week and will now be looking to get back to winning against a Holley squad that has yet to win a game.

ND played a solid defensive half and held the Hornets to just seven points, then had a chance to tie the game early in the third quarter when a halfback option call backfired and led to an interception near the end zone.

O-A rolled after that and Notre Dame had what was probably its weakest offensive game of the season.

A weak offense shouldn't be a problem this week against Holley, which is playing under rented lights. Hopefully the school rented a scoreboard as well because watching a game there is painful without a game clock.

Nick Bochicchio has put up more attempts than any other quarterback in the Genesee Region League this season and has compiled 463 yards through the air. He attempted 34 passes in the opening week of the season.

His favorite target is Kevin Francis, who has 242 receiving yards and has the ability to get into the end zone any time he touches the ball on on offense or special teams.

The Fighting Irish rushing attack features two solid runners.

Mike Pratt has 243 yards and five TDs and will bounce off would-be tacklers all day while Kevin Schildwaster is a speedster that has compiled 238 yards and two touchdowns.

Craig Houseknecht, Rick Lair and Greg Barr are the three leading ND tacklers.

The Hawks came close to getting that elusive first win last week against Alexander. Holley was leading 8-6 before the Trojans kicked a field goal with eight minutes left to get the victory.

Guy Hills is the biggest playmaker on the Holley roster, but Mike Pernicano has the ability to bust a run if his line can open a hole.

Brandon Comden scored with just under 10 minutes left in the game to give Holley a 2-0 win over Byron-Bergen in a boys soccer match.

The other Holley tally came on an own goal.

Keith Lutes stopped six shots to earn his first career shutout for the Hawks (5-3-1).

Tyler Sass had 12 saves for B-B (4-5-1).
