GCC Swimming and Diving earns tri-meet sweep

The Genesee Community College swimming and diving team came away with a tri-meet sweep on Wednesday night, defeating both Alfred State College and Mercyhurst North East.

The men’s team downed Alfred 48-46 and Mercyhurst North East 70-17. The women edged Mercyhurst North East 37-33 and defeated Alfred 44-16.

Calla Wolfley got things going for GCC by placing first in the 200 yard free with a finishing time of 2:21.80, and followed it up later in the night by winning the 500 yard free. Kylie Bank tallied a pair of first place finishes, topping the 50 yard free and the 100 yard breaststroke. Brianne Strong paced the 100 yard backstroke, winning by more than 14 seconds with a finishing time of 1:12.11.

Yusuke Inami continued his strong start to the season on the men’s side with a pair of first place finishes. He won the 100 yard butterfly with a finishing time of 53.10 and the 100 yard free with a finishing time of 51.71. Randi Rudnik and Jacob Finkney also earned top finishes for the Cougars, winning the 200 yard IM and 500 yard freestyle respectively.

The Cougars will return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Jamestown Community College for a 6pm start.

GCC swimming and diving Invitational

The Genesee Community College swimming and diving team held their season-opening invitational meet on Saturday afternoon, competing against Jamestown Community College, SUNY Delhi, Alfred State and Herkimer County Community College.

The men's team combined for 260 points and a second place finish and the women's team combined for 181 points and a third place finish.

Brianne Strong led the way for the women with first place finishes in the 200 yard free, 100 yard free, 100 yard backstroke and was part of the top 200 yard medly relay team. Melissa Krause earned the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke with a finishing time of 1:20.22, and Calla Wolfley added a second place finish in the 1000 yard free.

Yusuke Inami was the top swimmer for the men's team, earning three first place finishes. He paced the 100 yard fly, the 50 yard free and the 100 yard free. Randi Rudnik swam to a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Cougars will swim again on Wednesday night when they host Alfred State and Mercyhurst North East at 6pm.

Cougars earn eleven first place Finishes

The Genesee Community College swimming and diving team hosted the “Last Chance Invitational” on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Jamestown Community College and Herkimer County Community College to the Genesee Aquatic Center.

While team scores and combined scores were not kept, the Cougars earned first place finishes in eleven events on the day.

The men’s 200 yard medley relay team of Yusuke Inami (Chikusei, Japan), Max Brady (Akron, NY), Robert Harder and Ben Tyx (Alexander, NY) kicked off the afternoon with a first place finish and a time of 1:49.42. Smith followed with victories in the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle, beating out fellow teammate Brandon Schwab (Gainesville, NY) in the latter, who swam the second best time in the seven swimmer race.

Inami continued his impressive season by breaking his own school record in the 200 yard IM, his sixth record of the year, with a finishing time of 1:58.23. He also earned the top time in the 100 yard breaststroke and was part of the winning 400 yard freestyle relay team.

Schwab beat the field in the 500 yard freestyle and Jake Rudnik (Pembroke, NY) was the winner of the 200 yard breaststroke.

Kylie Bank (Alexander, NY) topped the women’s 100 yard breaststroke and beat the field by more than five seconds, while Emily Mott (Oakfield, NY) earned a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly and a third place finish in the 200 yard IM.

The meet concludes the regular season for the squad who will begin the post-season on February 17th at a time and location to be determined.

GCC Swimming and Diving Earns Split

The Genesee Community College swimming and diving team played host to Monroe Community College and Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday evening, with both the men and women finishing with one win and one loss on the night.
 
The GCC men’s team defeated Mercyhurst North East 73-11 and fell to Monroe Community College 50-40. The women’s team beat Mercyhurst North East 28-1 and lost to Monroe Community College 77-9.
 
Top swimmers on the men’s side included Yusuke Inami (Chikusei, Japan) who finished first in the 200 yard IM and edged out MCC’s Taylor Stewart by 0.83 seconds to claim the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly. Inami teamed up with Brady Smith (Brisbane, Australia), Max Brady (Akron, NY) and Ben Tyx (Alexander, NY) to win the 200 yard medley relay with a finishing time of 1:50.66. Smith also added a second place finish on the night in the 100 yard backstroke, and Tyx, Genesee’s only diver, earned a finals score of 115.25.

Emily Mott (Oakfield, NY) swam to a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle and a third place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. Kylie Bank (Alexander, NY) earned a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a finishing time of 1:24.06 and finished third in the 50 yard freestyle. Lauren Hughes (Elba, NY) finished in third place in the 100 yard freestyle.
 
Genesee will travel to Jamestown Community College on Saturday afternoon and will host the “Genesee Last Chance Invitational” on Saturday, February 4th at 1pm.

GCC Swimming and Diving Combine for Invitational Win

The Genesee Community College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams combined for a first place finish on Saturday afternoon at the GCC Harvest Invitational.

Six teams participated in the event which included Genesee, Jamestown Community College, Herkimer County Community College, SUNY Delhi, Alfred State College and Erie Community College.

GCC combined for a first place team total of 487.50 points. Jamestown Community College (420) finished 2nd, Alfred State College (352.50) finished 3rd, SUNY Delhi (310) finished 4th, Herkimer County Community College (292) finished 5th and Erie Community College (60) finished 6th.

The GCC men’s team took first place with a team total of 302.50 total points. Alfred State College finished in 2nd with 290.50, SUNY Delhi finished in 3rd with 199, Jamestown finished in 4th with 184 and Herkimer finished in 5th with 88.

The men’s 200 yard medley relay team which included Dustin Pratt, Yusuke Inami, John Hickey and Brandon Schwab had a strong first place showing with a total time of 1:50.34. Inami also finished in first place and set school records in the 200 yard IM (2:03.12) and 100 yard butterfly (52.49). He also topped the 500 yard freestyle race with a finishing time of 5:03.83. Hickey earned a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:10.28, edging out second place by 0.41 seconds.

The GCC women’s team finished the day in third place with a total of 185 points. The Jamestown women took first place with a total of 236 points, followed by Herkimer in 2nd with 204. SUNY Delhi (111), Alfred State (62) and Erie (60) rounded out the bottom three.

The Lady Cougars 200 yard medley relay team of Alysha Phillips, Emily Mott, Taylor Henry and Kylie Bank took first place with a finishing time of 2:10.97. Phillips topped the 200 yard IM with a total time of 2:38.54 and Henry had second place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle (1:03.59) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:19.43).
