What: Genesee Community College’s 50th Anniversary Convocation  When: Tuesday, Sept. 12 Convocation: 1 p.m. (Stuart Steiner Theatre) Where: Genesee Community College, One College Road, Batavia Who: College Community, Special Guests and Visitors Background: Convocation / 1 p.m., Genesee Center for the Art in the Stuart Steiner Theatre ​This formal academic ceremony marks another milestone in the life of Genesee Community College.

The expanding campus at GCC in Batavia has taken shape, and the College welcomes prospective students and their families to the Batavia Campus Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1. Although not completed, visitors can view from the outside the progress of the new Student Success Center and Richard C.

The Stafford Historical Society will have its first monthly program of the season at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd, in the Court Room of Stafford Town Hall, 8903 Route 237. The well-known speaker, Gregory P. Kinal will be doing a presentation called “Days That Shook America: A program that touches on the major news stories from 1900 to present.” This information includes a multitude of triumphs and tragedies in America. All are invited.

On Thursday, Oct. 1,Batavia Middle School will host its annual Open House Program starting at 6:30 p.m. Parents/guardians and students are invited to attend the evening program. Participants may visit classrooms and other learning areas in a relaxed manner. They are free to visit any and all of their child’s teachers.

YWCA of Genesee County is calling upon former Buffalo Bills Special Teams player Steve Tasker to help kick off this year’s annual Stiletto & Sneaker Walk. He will give opening remarks, go on the walk and be available for a meet-and-greet session afterward. The walk is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at YWCA, 301 North St. YW Executive Director Jeanne Walton wanted to incorporate schools, especially athletics, into this year’s events as a fresh way to approach an old and ugly topic.
