Six hundred pound safe falls off back of truck onto Main Street

By Alecia Kaus

A  pickup truck carrying a 600-pound safe lost its load a little before 10 this morning.

The pickup was traveling west on Main Street near Jackson when the safe fell onto the road.

According to Batavia Police, the driver will be ticketed for failure to secure the load properly.

Parise's was called to haul the safe off the road.

What good will the ticket do? I'm sure the guy's pride is damaged enough without adding a ticket onto the cost of paying Parise's.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Everyone needs their cut when someone makes a mistake.

Um let's see Doug,

1) It tied up traffic and an officer to direct said traffic for an hour, a cost and inconvenience to the City

2) That was just past the intersection, pretty much lucky it didn't hit a car on the way out or be hit by a car shortly after it fell from the pickup truck

So in essence, it was a negligent act that likely could have caused damage or personal injury to someone, cost the tax payers probably around $100.00 simply because it tied up an officer, and it was a violation of a motor vehicle law that actually serves a logical purpose. Pretty much justified a ticket. I feel bad for the guy, I am sure that it cost him in pride and towing charges, but it also cost the taxpayers of the city due his not securing the load. It may seem petty, but it had purpose.

This is a clear violation of the NYSafe Act, which is a felony, perhaps multiple felonies, which should be investigated. Was the truck carrying more than seven safes? Was this a gun safe? If it is a gun safe, were the guns safe? Were there more than seven guns in the safe. Did the guns have seven bullets in them? Are we sure the safe only weighed 600 pounds, or what if it were more than seven hundred pounds, does this compound the lawlessness of the lawbreaking lawbreakers...who, by the way, are standing in the driving lane outside the crosswalk...last I knew, jaywalking is still a crime, and the evidence is irrefutable. My advice...take the plea, do your four years, get a good college education and...don't drop the soap!

Last time I knew, officers got paid by the hour. He was going to get paid whether a safe fell out of the back of the truck or not. You kill me sometimes, Mark, honestly.

A good Libertarian would just say something like: "Hey, I made a mistake and thank goodness people didn't get hurt. Could you help me get this back into my truck and secure it so that I and everyone else can get on with our business?"

It wouldn't need to end with a ticket, court time, state surcharges, etc.

Thats an easy one Doug.... That was Sgt Fuqnutz, he was on his way to the Bergen Exit to get to the WilsonFarms/SugarCreek/7-11 store on 33 to get the last doughnuts before you got there.

That's all ....
