Two-car accident at West Main and Lyon in the city

A two-car accident is reported at West Main and Lyon streets. One passenger is complaining of back pain. A State Trooper is on scene. City fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 12:39 p.m.: A second ambulance is dispatched to aid another person complaining of back pain.

UPDATE 1 p.m.: A man is being taken to UMMC after complaining of back pain. The other medic is back in service.

Car crashes into Wilson Farms Market in Oakfield

An accident is reported in Oakfield. A car struck the Wilson Farms Market building. There are believed to be no injuries. The store is located at 25 S. Main St. Sheriff's deputies are on location.

Three-car accident on Route 98 in Elba

A three-car accident with unknown injuries is reported at Route 98 and Lockport Road in Elba. Elba Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 6:35 p.m.: One person is being transported to UMMC with complaints of abdominal pain.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: There were three two injuries reported. One person is being taken to a hospital via Mercy Flight. The third second victim either declined or did not require transport. Traffic is heavily backed up. Route 98 remains closed until the tow trucks clear the scene.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: The roadway is being reopened.

Minor injury accident on Walker Road, Alexander

A one-car accident is reported at 2616 Walker Road in Alexander. There is a "very minor injury" but extrication is needed. The car is off the roadway. Alexander fire and ambulance are responding.

At each of these “Congress On Your Corner” events, constituents will have the opportunity to talk with Congresswoman Hochul and her staff about a wide array of federal matters, as well as any constituent's casework, including Medicare, Social Security, veterans' benefits, and other issues.

 

Car on fire at Main and Fargo roads in Stafford

A totally "fully involved" car fire is reported at Main and Fargo roads in Stafford. Stafford Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 2:10 p.m.: The fire is out. No one was hurt. Stafford is back in service.

Car accident with injuries at Route 19 and North Road, Le Roy

A car accident with injuries is reported at Route 19 and North Road in Le Roy. There are three patients. Traffic police are called to shut down traffic on Route 19 at Parmalee and Route 19 and North Road.

Le Roy Fire and Ambulance Service is responding along with mutual aid from Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 6:01 p.m.: A third ambulance is requested as mutual aid from Caledonia.

UPDATE 6:02 p.m.: Caledonia's response has been cancelled.

UPDATE 6:28 p.m.: Two patients are being transported to United Memorial Medical Center.

UPDATE 6:33 p.m.: Tow trucks are on location. Two more patients are being taken to the hospital. Mercy EMS is taking one of them to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mercy Flight to transport possible stroke victim on Lockport Road, Oakfield

A landing zone for Mercy Flight out of Batavia is going to be set up in a pasture off Lockport Road in Oakfield to transport a possible stroke victim to the hospital. One fire engine out of Oakfield is responding to set up the landing site. Mercy EMS is also responding.

UPDATE 5:12 p.m.: Mercy Flight has landed.

New transportation options for the disabled

Beginning in mid-January, Independent Living of Genesee Region (ILGR) is pleased to announce that in cooperation with Western New York Independent Living, Inc. (WNYIL), transportation services will be offered for people that are eligible for services through the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities AND are living with a family member in Genesee or Orleans counties.

Qualified individuals will receive up to six round trips per month at no cost to a location of choice in the Buffalo / Rochester region.

A wheelchair-accessible van with a driver that meets Article 19A of the Vehicle and Traffic Law guidelines will be based at the ILGR main office on Main Street in Batavia. ILGR and WNYIL recognize that reliable, accessible and affordable transportation is a barrier for many families, especially in rural areas. This program will help eliminate that barrier.

Also in January, ILGR will offer transportation services on a fee-for-service basis for anyone with a disability. ILGR believes the availability of local accessible services will assist to serve the ever-increasing mobility needs of the local community.

Bergen student at RIT makes the Deans' List

Nicholas Quilliam, of Bergen, has been named to the Deans' List for the fall quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology.

A third-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Quilliam is studying Information Technology. He is a 2002 graduate of Maple Grove Jr./Sr. High School.

Internationally recognized as a leader in computing, technology, engineering, fine and applied arts, and education of the deaf, Rochester Institute of Technology enrolls 15,500 full- and part-time
students in more than 340 career-oriented and professional programs.

Night hike at Genesee County Park and Forest

If you would enjoy taking a walk in a winter wonderland, there is one planned in the evening on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Genesee County Park.

Using snowshoes, participants will be guided through a night hike at Genesee County Park and Forest under the full moon and finish at Pavilion A for refreshments and a warm fire. Snowshoes will be provided.

Time is from 6 to 8 p.m. Preregistration is required. Call 344-1122 to make reservations. Cost is $8 per person. Dress for cold weather.

Snowshoes will soon be available to rent at Genesee County Park

Snowshoes are available to rent at the Genesee County Park & Forest Interpretive Nature Center during the months of January, February, and March, weather permitting. Rentals are on a first-come-first-serve basis and must be used at the park.

Cost is $5/pair. Hours for rentals: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

College foundation announces new ag division in its annual funding campaign

The Genesee Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the brand new Agricultural Division of the Annual Campaign. Spanning across all counties in the GLOW region, the ag Campaign is a new division to the annual campaign that aims to raise funds for student scholarships.

Peter Call, overall chair for the Foundation's ag campaign, notes that "Agriculture is the driving economic force in this area. Growth on our farms and ag businesses, as well as the growing opportunities for ag careers in the GLOW region, will provide GCC students with many options to choose from."

Letters are being sent from the GLOW area ag chairs, and Call is hopeful that the ag community will generously support the Foundation's ag campaign this year. It will be a wise investment for the future of the ag community as well as the GLOW region.

In addition to being overall campaign chair, Call will oversee the Genesee County area.

The Genesee Community College Foundation was formed in the mid-'80s as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing service to and support of the college. Its 30-member board of directors is comprised of business and civic leaders, and provides funding for student scholarships and grants.

Motorhome blocking traffic on Bloomingdale Road in Alabama

A large motorhome has broken down and is blocking both lanes of traffic on Bloomingdale Road. The location is between the reservation and the Hawk's Nest Cafe. Alabama traffic police are requested to the scene to handle traffic until the vehicle can be towed.

Motor-vehicle accident on Fisher Road in Oakfield

A motor-vehicle accident with injury is reported at 7381 Fisher Road in Oakfield. One person is complaining of a shoulder injury.

The location is "just before the curve" between Lewiston Road and Drake Street.

Oakfield Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

Update 6:09 p.m.: An official on scene says responders can come to the scene in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 6:21 p.m.: This must be a pile-up since a Sheriff's Deputy is reporting to dispatch that there are six vehicles involved, but not all of them are damaged.

UPDATE 6:36 p.m.: Oakfield fire is back in service.

One car rollover on Warsaw Road

A one-car rollover accident is reported at 9552 Warsaw Road in the area of Cole Road. There is one patient, who is conscious and alert and bleeding from the head.

Le Roy Fire Department and Le Roy medics are responding. Traffic control is warranted.

UPDATE 4:24 p.m.: Le Roy medics are transporting the patient to the hospital in Warsaw. Le Roy fire back in service.
