No rain in the forecast for prime trick-or-treat time

By Howard B. Owens

It's no fun to trick or treat in the rain, but ghouls, goblins as well as princesses and pirates shouldn't worry too much.

The forecast for this evening ranges from 0 percent to 10 percent chance of precipitation.

But it is going to be a little cold. The temperature is expected to drop into the high 40s.

The good news is, the wind will have died down by then.

Wind, did you say? Yes, there's a wind advisory in place from 4 to 6 p.m., with gusts of up to 40 mph expected.

Happy Halloween. Be safe.

When I was a kid, it snowed every year on Halloween. I had to walk 3 miles uphill to trick or treat. There was no candy, an apple if I was lucky. Mostly, I got rocks and dirt. Kids these days don't know how good they have it.

And none of these store bought costumes when we were kids either. We just robbed my mother's closet and jewelry box to be a gypsy or put on old oversized clothes, put charcoal on our faces and got a $.25 fake cigar to be a bum.

One year I went trick or treating with a bag just like Home Depot sells for leaves. It was giant and I had it about a third filled and it was raining. By the time I got home I had lost a quarter of the candy through a hole caused by periodic dragging due to excessive weight and short legs. I found out later that other kids were following me down the street and picking up what I lost.
Life is so cruel, and I still had a couple of teeth without cavities.
