Introducing The Batavian's opinion section

By Howard B. Owens

The Batavian now has an opinion section.

This will become our central hub for community discussions about a variety of issues.  We welcome submissions of op-ed pieces and letters to the editor (we've never accepted letters before).  Submissions must be made either through the website (register for an account and login in the box on the left side of the page) or through email to howard@thebatavian.com.

All points of view are welcome.

We do have rules and guidelines.  You can read them here.

We will no longer have comments on stories but we do have comments on opinion pieces posted to the opinion section.  Posts to the opinion section will not be shared on The Batavian's Facebook page but will remain exclusive to the website.

The "recent comments" box remains on the left side of the home page and this will contain links to comments made on posts in the opinion section.

Censorship where people need to hear it. the comments should be available on the main article page. Why is it necessary to suppress people who are following the rules? We don't need an unattached space to write opinions, we need our opinions to be heard where they matter, where people will see them. Quit censoring people who ruffle up feathers with the truth. Don't contribute to silencing those who know the truth, who know the solutions to the problems, who aren't afraid to be bullied by politicians. Some of us aren't afraid to not blend into the fold. Some of us aren't paid for.

Nothing is hidden.

There's no point in offering comments on stories when nobody comments. I'm hoping with this change, that over time, we can foster more conversation.

And as you know, people can still comment on our stories on Facebook.

Also, Roberta, you often have a lot to say. Submit a letter to the editor or an op-ed. Be a conversation starter. Help us build up a new hub for community conversation.

Did you try looking at the main menu across the top of the home page (every page really). If it's hidden, it's hidden in plain sight. It couldn't possibly be easier to find.
