Police Beat: Stafford man allegedly threatens Village of Corfu court staff

By Howard B. Owens

Karl Matthew Churchill, 29, of 6018 Main Road, Stafford, is charged with harrassment. Churchhill allegedly made a threatening phone call to the Village of Corfu Court after receiving a traffic ticket for allegedly tinted windows.

Robert E. Magoffin Jr., 37, 3717 Broadway Road, Alexander, is charged with DWI with a BAC of .08 or greater. Magoffin was allegedly doing 84 m.p.h. in a 40 m.p.h. zone on Route 20 in Darien when he was stopped.  He was ordered to appear in Darien Town Court on Aug. 18.

He got a ticket for tinted windows? I can think of a handful of folks, here in Batavia, who have really dark tinted windows, and drive around every day with them. Why arent these people getting tickets for their windows. Wonder how that works?? Dont worry Howard I wont state any names, though I know them.

How is it that a person who is DUI and 44 MPH over the posted limit isn't in jail on $10K or $20K bail? He was ordered to appear in court in 1 month? Is his family friends with the police or the judge? Something isn't hitting on all cylinders with this one.

Chris, granted the ticket might be bogus but what does threatening the court have to do with the cop that wrote the ticket? I must say that calling the court and making the threats was a fairly stupid thing to do. It makes me wonder why he got the ticket in the first place. Was he pulled over and then couldn't keep his lippy mouth closed to the police? Sounds about right.

I'm not condoning what he did. All I said was that I don't blame him. I wasn't even aware tinted windows was a crime in NYS.

If you want to make assumptions, the court officials could have easily done something to further irritate this man. I'm not saying they did, however. I'm just pointing out that there isn't nearly enough information to take sides.

Mind you, I'm quite aware it wouldn't be the first time Corfu's justice system has gone batshit after someone for a minor traffic violation.
