Vote NO

By John Roach

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29th, is the vote on raising taxes to pay for upgrades at Van Detta Stadium. Just vote NO.

The School Board has money saved, use that money for the needed repairs. Do not borrow money and raise taxes for extras or anything else.

Remember, the School Board has property it can sell to pay for the Van Detta upgrades, but does not want to.  Until they do everything they can to not borrow money and raise taxes, just vote NO.

John lets hope that people get out there and vote no...Funny that the school board isn't out there reminding everyone to vote..They must feel they have enough vote to pass it..Lets prove them wrong and vote NO.....

Mark,
Thanks, and get the word out. I just looked at the Daily News and can not find any mention of this vote. You would think they would have printed a reminder.

I simply do not understand the reluctance to sell the North St. property in order to pay for this project.
I'm not opposed to this project per se...I'm opposed to the size of the expenditure and the fact that they're talking about borrowing money to pay for it. I am opposed to putting turf on that field for a variety of reasons including the future replacement costs (that nobody has talked about specifically) and putting young athletes at greater risk to injury (statistically a proven fact) just so "more games can be played" on this surface.

I'm also extremely disappointed that **NOBODY** from the district is talking about the fact that this field was just REBUILT approximately 10 years ago. What happened?? The drainage was supposedly improved and the field base was supposedly rebuilt to make it better able to withstand weather, etc. Apparently that didn't work out huh? Were any actions taken against the firms that planned and executed that project?

Why should be expect that even IF this proposed project goes forward, that things will be any different this time?

This board in conjunction with this administration has a history of over building and over spending on capital projects and this is just another in a long line.

I'm voting NO and I encourage all concerned taxpayers to get out and do the same.

Dave,
It's just my guess and a guess only, but I think the School Board will still try to build a sports park at North Street. That's why they will not sell.

I think, given the opposition to that project when they floated that trial balloon last time, that would be a fool's errand.
There's NO WAY that the residents of that area are going to allow that to happen...nor should they.

That area has developed into a very nice residential area. That's why it makes so much sense for the board to sell that property and allow it to be further developed - which would enlarge the tax base.

If they think there's opposition to this current project, wait until they try to shove that one down people's throats.

Can anyone tell me what happened to the property the city bought a few (?) years ago on River Street? There was talk of building a school. The school fell through, don't remember hearing anything more about the land. If I recall, it was almost to the end of River Street, right under the high voltage lines!!!!
