Personally I don't understand how our government can still discriminate against a group of people in this day and age. Really can we tell people that if they have blonde hair they can't get married either? I think we have much bigger problems in our world to worry about, and this shouldn't even be an issue, they should have every right just like anyone else.

i would like to know from any of the people that voted against, how does it affect your day to day life that u have to be against 2 people getting married regardless of their sexual preference. people will be together no matter what your narrow single mind thinks, and if its a religious point your trying to make "Let he without sin cast the first stone" I'd like to know what you have hiding in ur closet

I don't understand why anyone needs to get a "Licence" to become married. Isn't a marriage simply a vow of love, devotion and partnership between two people (simply put)? If two people of the same sex want to enter into such a contract, what business is it of anyone what they do? Being gay isn't a choice any more than it's a choice to be heterosexual. Isn't it more important for people to love each other and to stop hating?

Jason, hypocrisy and bigotry abound in the land of religion.

Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs.

We see it every day on our currency in the form of "In God we trust." I was always under the assumption that there was freedom of religion in this country. Not everyone believes in God but Christians think they rule the land.

Doug, hypocrisy and bigotry is not any more prevalent among the religious than it is anywhere else. We all have our own forms of hypocrisy and bigotry.

Just sayin'...

There have been many cases where gay partners have not been allowed to visit seriously ill partner in the hospital because they are not next of kin. Sometimes the ill partner dies without being able to see the person they love most.

Also, my son in law's sister had to adopt the child of her partner in order to have parental rights. If anything had happened to the mother, she would have had no rights to the child if the adoption was not final. They have been together for over 20 years. Luckily, we love them and support their relationship.

One of America's principles is that free people have the right to enter into contracts between themselves. I think homosexual men and women have the same rights to make civil union contracts (and divorces) between themselves. It's their business, not ours. BUT... I don't think any particular religion needs to be forced to perform a religious marriage, if it goes against their doctrine. I feel that is imposing one's belief on another, who might disagree with the particular issue. I also don't support homosexuals making spectacles of their sexuality in public, the same as I do not support heterosexuals making spectacles of their sexuality in public, but we have a right to pursue freedom and hapiness in this country as long as it does not harm society as a whole... and homosexuality does not.

Marriage was defined thousands of years ago in the bible!!! And the definition hasn't changed one bit since! After all people aren't allowed to divorce and two people each of a different color can't marry………. Wait…...

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. She said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted fan,
Jim

Irene, I love that and have used it myself a number of times to shut people up on issues of homosexuality. I really get tired of people who cherry-pick the bible.

I really like it when I see comments from people who I have never seen comment before. It means Howard is living up to my standards, plus some. Two thumbs up man.
