I am SO FREAKIN SICK of these stories! Why are these people allowed to keep a pet after something like this? Charge them with animal cruelty, fine them HEAVILY, and put their names onto a list at the shelter as "not fit to adopt animals".

God I friggin hate people more and more everyday. Don't own a dog if you don't know how to take care of it or just don't care period! Obviously these people only think about and care about themselves. A person should automatically lose their dog and get charged with animal cruelty when they leave a dog in a hot car. And make that person sit in that car for an hour with the windows rolled. See how they like it. God, I am so sick of hearing about this. These people are just plain a-holes!!!

How many possible reasons are there for leaving a dog in a car on a ridiculously hot day with the windows up? I think it's safe (for THIS "preacher" anyway) to assume there is NO good reason. I guess one person is allowed to assume, yet another is called names for doing so. How mature.

Alvin, I agree with you. Apparently, everyone just assumed there was a dog locked in the car with windows rolled up. No update to verify that. Second, I will let you all know that, I leave my dog in the car with the windows rolled up as well. However, I leave the AIR CONDITIONING on high and circulating. Plus, I leave her for only a few minutes usually between 5-20 minutes depending on how many people, I have to deal with in the cash out lines. Police with K-9s leave their dogs in the car with the AC flowing yet, the almighty angry mob on this blog don’t seem too concern about that. Now before people get their feathers all ruffle, maybe you should look at the facts and circumstances before you laid down your GUILTY AS CHARGE judgment.

By the way I see many drivers with their small dogs in their lap whiling driving. I was up in Amherst on my way to the Niagara River with my dog that, I left in the car while I got bottle water and a can of dog food for her during our hike. Once again AC was on yet, some B%#CH in her Chevrolet Impala with an ankle bitter size dog in her lap while driving by yelled obscenities at me about locking my dog in the car. Hmmm, did she just happen to stop by the parking lot at Wegman's with her dog and is she aware having the dog in her lap intereferes with her safe driving?

Oh before you all get ruffle. I do not agree for those who lock their pets in the car without the windows fully down, water or the AC on. Car heat builds up with windows up or even if slightly cracked in which it does not get significant air flow. Now when people go to resrtaurants and have their dogs in the car, I will admit that is little ridiculous and neglectful. Not just for the heat purpose but, sanitary as well.

John, this is some ruffle free advice, leave the damn dog/cat/ pet at home, unless you are taking them to see the vet.
There is no safe place for your dog in the passenger/driver seats. The safest way to carry a pet in a car is in a pet carrier.
A dog suddenly jumpimg on the driver is as much of a distraction as texting and driving. To me it's common sense, I love my dogs
and would feel horrible if they were injured becuase of my stupidity.

Frank, obvious you are speaking out of your bum. First of all one does not need a carrier to keep your pet safe in a vehicle. There also special belts out there that can secure your pet. BTW is your carrier secured to your vehicle. Meaning is it bolted down to the vehicle so, it does not shift in travel. A seat belt is not 100% reliable either. They are not meant to secure carriers. A fence between the front and back would work too.

NS, having a dog in your lap while driving is a distraction. What the heck did you think I said?

I take my dog on many trips and sometimes I need to stop to purchase a quick item or two. I get to take her out when I stop by pet stores and she loves to socialize. I think you are FOC if, you claim that, you never left your dog or dogs in car once while doing something quickly. That is just my opinion.

Oh btw my point is that, leaving a dog for a few minutes in your car with windows fully down or up with AC running doesn't endanger the dog's life. If the windows up and no AC or significant air flow then yes. Leaving your dog in the car for hours is not good and even with water and ventilation could result in damage of your car.
