Today's Poll: Who should be 'Person of the Year'

By Howard B. Owens
Jeff Allen

It all depends on how you define the parameters of the title...
If it's the person who made the greatest impact from from a position of non-leadership, it's Snowden
If it's the person who displayed the most global power, it's Putin
If it's the person who displayed the greatest narcissism while damaging their brand at the same time, it's a tie between Cyrus and Obama
If it's person has shown the greatest potential to have a positive influence on both followers and non followers alike and treats people with equal compassion regardless of distinctions, then it is hands down, Pope Francis (for disclosure, I'm not Catholic).

I voted Snowden, as he is the only one in the list who is acting in a manner which is for the benefit of the American "little guy".
The rest are supporting an agenda which helps only those who don't need it...
(Though I did pen a letter to Putin, in hopes that he can help us "little people" slay the dragons that are devouring our sustenance... UNREAL that fundamental American Christians can only find hope of help in the Russian President! What a world, eh?)

I voted for the Pope as well. Pope Francis has been rattling the cages of Catholicism and setting a good example while not compromising the tenets of the Faith. I also love the way he shuns the way things have been done (the flashy and glamorous shows of wealth as well as replacing the hierarchy of the Church being honored in religious observances with common or underprivilegded instead.

I voted Pope Francis as well, primarily because person of the year should have world wide impact, and his humility and example are more of an impact in my opinion world wide than the others.

The person of the year should be someone who benefits the world as whole not for one's selfish needs. Jeff and Kyle hit the nail on the head. Mike I agree with your comment on the Obama picks. The only thing I have for you is there are still liberals who follow the liar and those individuals who are lazy and loves the Obama handouts.

Snowden did not do anything special. All he did was take what many people already believed or knew and validate it. If anyone was naive enough to think it was not happening then they should move out of their fantasy world. Do you believe these technology companies are not working with our government in some capacities? Our government uses these technologies to watch everyone. Besides if you are naive enough to believe that your information is truly protected over the wireless networks. You are more naïve than you know. Look at Life Lock. The owner used his own social security number until someone hacked in and stole $1 dollar to prove it is not all that secure. The wireless network is not as secure as one made think. It is a constant struggle for companies, governments, banks and shopping centers to protect their clients’ information. Look at the recent Target incident. So, wake up and realize your personal information has been leaked since, the beginning, whether using physical or virtual protection plans. You have no privacy over the virtual world especially if you are stupid enough to put it on social networks. Snowden is a criminal as well as a hero to some. If, he thought he was innocent of any criminal activity then why run? Please the government is out to get him? Well then impeach the tyrant.

Hey John, what handouts are you talking about ? I know a few people who could use a freebie now and again, so could you be more specific.
Do they have to be lazy to qualify for these " handouts"? Just curious.
