Today's Poll: Do you hold a favorable or unfavorable view of Gov. Cuomo?

By Howard B. Owens

I voted favorable with reservations. Generally speaking, he was the only modern day Gov. that was able to negotiate a settlement with the Seneca Indians and recapture the 500 million dollars they owe the State. On the negative side: I totally disagree with his SAFE Act. This was nothing but political grandstanding to beat Obama to the punch. The Act was poorly thought out and next to impossible to enforce. I feel he is positioning himself to make a run at the Presidency.

So Tom, money is more important to you than your rights?

Edit: Or the rights of the people that were stripped of their country before any of us even had any rights here? I see him posturing the the potheads and to his crony business pals to cut taxes, but not to cut OUR taxes. He's a failure on infinite levels. He's also made some pretty disparaging remarks lately.

If people are so flippant about rights that might be unimportant to them, I don't want to see them cry a river when rights important to them are stripped away. People should be "up in arms" about the inept governor, and the a**hats from both parties that support him.

Over 100 people who view backdoor, middle of the night legislation favorably, who see favorably a Governor who has no problem disenfranchising a large portion of the constituents he was elected to represent. Is it blind partisanship, low information voters, or just people who believe that the free exchange of ideas only works with one set of ideas?

We are talking two different issues here. To paraphrase Ronny Regan: "The business of New York State is business". This monies that the Seneca were withholding rightfully belong to the taxpayers of NYS. I whole heartedly agree with your statement about safe guarding the Rights afforded us through the Constitution. The SAFE Act was illegal and will be modified or struck down in the Courts soon.
BTW, it seems we had this same discussion some months ago.

Howard, as a conservative christian who is pro-life, pro 2nd amendment and opposed to gay marriage, am I allowed to vote. Cuomo's statement that I, and those like me don't belong in NY makes me wonder if he would somehow pull the plug on The Batavian if you allow me to.

The only politician I have a lower opinion of is obama.

Wow! After three decades of listening to politicians denigrate Liberals the tide has turned, and the besmirched don't like it. Welcome to the Legion of the Marginalized. That circle on your back doesn't mean you're a valued customer at a retail store on Veteran's Memorial Drive.

CM, the far right and far left have denigrated each other equally since the beginning of this nation. Vitriol is not the sole property of any extreme so spare us the indignantly phrased retort please.

It is stupid when the left does it, and stupid when the right does it but it is definitely something that has been with us since day one.

I often laugh to myself when people discus politics and think that anything is so different than it was 100 years ago, we all look for the good old days that actually never existed. The banter in American Politics is only tempered by the era in which it was on stage, and while we look back and say that politicians were so mild back then, one usually forgets that the political banter of any era was perceived equally as sharp by the opposition back then as it is now

And frankly, no political machine has ever invested so much in the personal destruction and denigration of opposition as the current administrations political organization. It is simply a matter of perspective.

And you yourself have used degrading and somewhat besmirching comments for those who you politically disagree with, just review your post every time a thread concerning Chris Collins is posted.

Mark, read: I was referring to politicians NOT the hoi polloi. Sure- everyone's got an opinion and feels empowered to bash the other side. Generally centrist politicians AKA: THE ELECTED try to avoid casting vitriol simply because of the glass house rule. I'm not condoning what Andrew Cuomo said (although if he had phrased it in a less provocative manner it would only mirror a consensus view of squabbles within the GOP); I'm merely stating the obvious. Those who exist in the marginalized wings are always safe targets- welcome to the club.

Ah those rare moments when we agree CM, I do admit to jumping at you a bit, for that I apologize, it was the "OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS" part that ignited me, maybe saying since time began might have been more accurate,

And you are correct, Coumo violated the Glass House Rule, a less provocative choice of words and perhaps it would have been a non issue

As far as my chuckles over the perceived good ole days, I stand by that part as it wasn't explicitly targeted toward your comment.

# NOTE ADDED [EDIT] While I agree with you CM that if he worded it differently it would have probably not gained any traction, the fact is he DID say what he said, and when you look at it, it is pretty clear it was intentional and intended to stir up the more left leaning to support him. It was political, it was stupid, and it was very telling about his mindset.

After reading his comments yesterday concerning pro lifers, anti-gays and second amendment supporters, I withdraw my vote for and vote against this Gov. I can only hope that this individual doesn't run for the Presidency as he is making a play for the Low Information voter. Similar to what Obama did in the last election.

Cuomo has no choice but to appeal to the low information voter, as most Americans are just that....self-absorbed, egocentric morons who have no problem drifting aimlessly, as long as the government is there to hold their hands. Washington DC is corrupt, and Andrew will fit in nicely there. He can only hope Hilary decides not to run, otherwise, he stands no chance.
He is a good talker, though. Speaks chameleon. Says what he thinks his audience wants to hear, then does whatever he pleases.

Sean Hannity just announced (on Greta Van Susteren's show) that, because of Coumo's anti-conservative rant, he's going to leave the state. He said he pays approx. 62% of his money to NY, and he's "had it".
