Today's Poll: Should people be able to raise goats and chickens in cities?

My wife and I have been toying with the idea of keeping a couple of chickens. I am concerned about the noise, smell and mess that comes with them though...

I looked in the city code for a section re: livestock and found nothing. Does the City of Batavia have any regulations pertaining to keeping livestock?

I wish that all of my neighbors had goats to "eat/mow" their lawns. It would be FAR more pleasant than having to endure the constant loud din of power mowers and weed-whackers that ruins so many otherwise lovely summer afternoons. It would also be much better for the environment. I'm pro-goats and chickens, as long as they are well cared for.

California public land managers regularly use herds of goats to scale the steep hillsides and devour the brush for fire prevention. Works good. I live in the heart of the city and I am not inclined to appreciate roosters crowing at the crack of dawn.

I understand that goats also love to eat poison ivy, and they are (apparently) able to safely do so. I also live in the heart of the city, but that sure would come in handy around here. Last summer, the poison ivy was terrible!
