Guitar stolen, pawned, but shop has no record of who bought it
This guitar was stolen from a local woman and pawned at a local pawn shop. The pawn shop has no record of who bought the guitar. Paul Draper is trying to recover the guitar for his aunt. If you know the whereabouts of the guitar, e-mail Paul at [email protected].
Is that a signature on the body? Identifying it may help to locate the missing property.
The signature on the guitar is from Marty Stuart.
I thought pawn shops had to keep records of both incoming and outgoing merchandise.
Pawn shops are only required to keep accurate records of items brought in for pawn or sale. They're required to see a photo ID from the person pawning or selling items to them.
As far as records of items they sell, they're no different than any other retailer, and are not required to maintain records of people who buy from them.
You are correct Frank, the person who stole the guitar has been charged.
**Update** THEY FOUND THE GUITAR!! Thanks to a reader of the The Batavian who noticed that their friend's recent purchase looked similar to the one pictured here. The person who purchased the guitar from the pawn shop would like to remain anonymous but I would just like to say thank you so very much on behalf of my Aunt and Uncle. Also a huge thank you to Howard Owens for posting the article and anybody who shared the Facebook posts. This guitar has been in the family for 30 years and thanks to your help, it will continue to be with us for many more. Thanks again everybody! -PDIII-
