Batavia PD investigating report of disturbance at State and Lewis

By Howard B. Owens

Batavia PD is responding to State Street and Lewis Place for a report of a disturbance.

The initial call was for a group of people making a lot of noise. Minutes later, a follow-up call said people were fighting.

When the first patrol arrived on scene, the officer said members of the group fled. Some headed toward Bank Street, some are said to be heading north on State Street.

Multiple police units responding.

UPDATE 10:29 p.m.: An officer reports he's out with several individuals at State and Lewis.

Time to evict the problem families. If we can get the landlords involved by either voluntarily or by force of a common nuisance contributor, then and only then will these people have to move out of our city.

The landlords are key , they have to buy into the fact that we as a community are sick of them renting to the same problem families for the mere fact of a rental check from the NY State System . It's a bunch of garbage and many of these landlords in question are either prominent businesses men or politicians that do not live near the trash.

Is what it is , if someone doubts my claims then you too are contributing to the problem. The info is out there of who owns these properties or the LLC they hide behind . It doesn't take much research to find out who applies for the LLC . You maybe surprised as who is controlling the trash or keeping a safe haven for the trash to live. How one runs a business is also a reflection of their character

Or if we had more solid local employment opportunities there hopefully would be a better class of renters. Or at least renters who after working a full day aren't in the mood to rumble.
You can't put all the blame on landlords who they themselves have to pay rent/mortgage on these properties. What's the alternative a good percentage of these rental units end up foreclosed & abandoned, adding to our already growing list ?

Thomas, where in the article did it mention a family living on
either State St. or Lewis Pl. were involved ?
Your rant seems to be stereotypical of those living in that area.
How do you know the rent is being paid by the state? Do you
mean everyone who lives there, or just a few, or just the problem
families you speak of?
Evicting people is not simple Tom, look into it, you may be surprised.

Thomas you must be truly ignorant on how much power landlords actually have. Even with decent background checks they can get problem tenants in. Legal evictions aren't easy or fast either. Even a non-payment eviction can take alot of time. 24 or 72 hour evictions are very rare. Then even with an eviction order in hand Landlords have to have a police, or peace officer secure the premises, remove the people then allow a locksmith to change the lock and secure the premises.

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself on the realities a little bit.

Tia, APOV, if your friends didn't use what you say this guy is selling, the problem would clear itself. As a recovering alcoholic, I can't ask the police to remove all the alcohol dealers, instead, I have to rely on self control. OMG!!!
Nice language, it really sells your point,lol..

Tia, glad to see you are about to graduate, so you must realize those using the drugs
are as much the problem as those selling. If Mr. Butler is caught selling, he goes to jail, but you can bet there will be another dealer taking his place as long as the market is there.

Tia, alcohol is every bit as dangerous as crack , meth, heroin or any other addictive drug. In fact, you will see more alcohol related incidents in emergency rooms, police blotters, hospitalizations and so on.Just because it is legal,it doesn't make it safer than illegal drugs.

Tia I'm not trying to put you down, however your calling people out here accomplishes what exactly. Alot of us who read the paper and live in this city are familiar with him and other idiots out there. But calling them out here just does nothing. Let the police know, step outside and take pictures of cars stopping at his house, People going in and out, if no camera then write it down.

If people who are so outraged in these neighborhoods did that, these idiots wouldnt be able to get a foothold. But instead people pretend they dont see, ignore everthing that doesn't affect them directly. What's Mr Butler gonna do shoot everyone on the block that isnt a customer or supplier? Sure he might threaten some but the more people watching the less likely that is to happen, the more paranoid dealers become. They eventually will move because their own paranoia will eat away at them til they have to go somewhere else.

We don't allow personal attacks, especially name calling on The Batavian, no matter who the target is.
