Jason, that's interesting. Hadn't seen that before.

Of course, many, many sites require a password with no spaces and mix of case, numerics and characters, defeating the four common, random words approach.

True the forced used of numbers and mixed case makes using this method harder. I've actually seen this used as an argument by some site-admins against included forced case/number use in passwords. However, the basic logic is sound, if your password is long enough, the case/character/number use becomes irrelevant. If it's not a single dictionary word, it's very secure.

Ultimately it's prudent to look at online storage of sensitive material this way: you take the sensitive material (financial documents, photos - nude or otherwise, etc.) place them in a fireproof, waterproof, double-walled safe with a state of the art locking mechanism, then place that safe in in the middle of the street in Times Square.

Wow. WHY did I read that article. It’s nothing but an Apple CYA dripping with misogynistic blame the victim crap.

“All a user can do is make sure, to the best of HER ability, that the protections afforded are state of the art.” [emphasis mine.]

“A simple test is whether you’re able to get into your significant other’s account without knowing the password in advance.”

Yes, test trustworthiness by being untrustworthy. I mourn humanity.

“Not being a Hollywood star or a world-class beauty provides a measure of protection, but only until someone develops an acute interest in you – stalkers, governments and other unwanted watchers obsess on the UNLIKELIST PEOPLE every once in a while.”
[emphasis mine.]

WHAT THE HECK.

Leonid’s got a lot of nerve declaring whose reaction does or doesn’t “make sense” to him. What a piece of garbage.
