This is very distressing. I fear walking Rocky at the Genesee Park & Forest and being confronted by a bear. It's one of my worst nightmares...and now I know this creature is lurking around there!

He probably is a yearling who wandered up from the Southern Tier looking for a new home. He would be more afraid of you that you are of him. Don't let your dog loose; bears and dogs do not play well together. This time of year they are 24 hour eating machines trying to store up enough fat to survive the Winter.

Billie -- You might want to consider visiting Barrett's Marine, and purchase a canister of bear pepper spray AND a loud air horn. Between the two, you should be OK. (visit YouTube to see how effective those 2 items are for bear encounters).

Never go out into any public place (or private place) [urban, suburban, rural] without an adequate weapon for personal protection.

The downside risk is not worth it.
