Curtis homers in ninth to give Muckdogs game one victory

By Howard B. Owens

Jermaine Curtis homered in the ninth inning Friday night to give the Batavai Muckdogs a 4-3 victory of the Jamestown Jammers in Jamestown.

The come-from-behind victor gives the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three New York-Penn League championship series.

Trailing 3-2 entering the ninth inning. the Muckdogs got to Jammers closer Jared Yecker (nine saves during the regular season) for three hits and two earned runs, including Curtis' blast.

Start Scott Gorgen twirled six spectacular innings of shutout ball and left the game with the lead, but relief pitcher Ramon Delgado surrendered all three of the Jammers runs.  Because Delgado was still on the mound to open the bottom of the ninth, he gets credit for the win tonight.

Poetry reading pitcher Jason Buursma picked up his second post season save by retiring the final Jamestown hitter.

The long-time Western New York rivals meet again Saturday night at Dwyer Stadium for game two of the series.  Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Thank You so much for your coverage on the Muckdogs. I use to live in Albion and went to 15-20 games every season. Now that I live in Rochester I try to make it to at least a few games every summer. It is so hard to find coverage for the team. The other day the media outlets reported about the Dogs resigning with St. Louis, but NOTHING about them making it to the finals. I wish I could be there tonight, or tomorrow, as they win the championship. Sadly, I have to work so I can't make it.
Luckly, I know that I will be able to read full coverage in The Batavian. Thank you again! What a dream season this is. From almost losing the team to the championship!

LETS GO MUCKDOGS! I was one of the 30 people who made the trip to that incredible game in Jamestown. We were up 2-0 going into the 8th. With one pitch Jamestown had a three run shot and took the lead. Now being down 3-2 in the 9th our backs were against the wall! Jermaine Curtis hit a two run shot that will be talked about for years as part of Muckdog history! Now Batavia has a 1-0 lead in this best of 3 series! Let's pack the stands tonight and witness another historic moment in franchise history! LETS GO MUCKDOGS!
