Kevin Sheehan caught a nice 5-pound bass at Dewitt Park yesterday.

I hope so too......I respectfully dont want to diminish Kevin's achievement. But bass this time of year are out of season because they are spawning, they are very agressive and easy to catch when defending the nests. If he kept it (which I sincerely hope he didnt) then it removed a splendid specimen from the genepool. This time of year I try not to remove them from the water to keep them in good shape to return to the nest.

Nice fish. NY State fishing laws state that you can legally fish for bass all year long with artificial lures. You just cannot fish for them "out of season" with live bait, or keep them. NY State has also done numerous studies that have proven that fishing for bass in the early spring and during spawning does not have an adverse effect on the spawn or the population.
